"I don't understand." Debra played dumb.
Drake pressed, "I'm not as smart as Marion, but I'm not clueless. In the valley, you had us plug our noses because you knew what'd happen if we breathed too much, didn't you?"
She stayed quiet, which only fueled his hunch.
"That dream does wipe out regrets," he said, looking up. "I saw my mom and that man. He didn't ditch her."
Debra blinked, and he smiled bitterly. "Turns out, all my crap ties back to that guy."
"That dream is fake. Everything in it is unreal. Don't overthink it," she said.
"You too," he said, leaning against the bed. "If you weren't overthinking, you wouldn't be grilling Andrew."
"So, you know what I'm after. Everyone does, except me."
"I learned one thing when I was little. Truth doesn't come from others. You want it? Dig it up yourself. Don't expect anyone to just hand it over."
He paused, then met her eyes. "Unless you don't wanna dig."
From what he knew of Debra, if she wanted answers, she'd have sniffed them out ages ago.
