Solomon was convinced that Lillian was untouchable, dodging danger like she was born lucky.
The next morning, they headed to school together.
In the driver's seat, Jordan scanned the crowd of students. "I'll be at the gate ten minutes early from now on. No lingering outside. No eating street food or stuff from classmates. Keep an eye out for shady types. Stay sharp."
"Got it," Lillian said.
They hopped out of the car.
Solomon narrowed his eyes, sensing Jordan's tension. Something was up around the school.
"Let's go," Lillian said, striding ahead.
Solomon stayed quiet, scoping out the crowd.
The school gate had way more guards than yesterday, and plainclothes policemen were blending in nearby. Most wouldn't notice, but Solomon, trained for this since he was a kid, clocked the setup.
The whole school was locked down tight, like a net keeping everyone inside safe.
"Lillian." Farrah jogged up, buzzing to show Lillian a tiny figurine.
She froze when she spotted Solomon trailing behind. "You guys came to school together. You related or something?"
"Kind of. He's my cousin," Lillian replied.
"Cousin?" Farrah's jaw dropped.
