Drake laughed at her question.

Debra frowned. "What's so funny? I'm being serious."

"You actually bought that?"

"You lied?"

"Yup."

"You're not a good guy."

"Never said I was."

The beach stretched on, but he wasn't feeling tired at all.

Back at campus, Debra hopped off the bike and handed him the helmet.

"Thanks for today. It was a big deal for me," she said, beaming.

Drake leaned on the bike, watching her glow over one day of skipping class.

"What kind of life do you live? One day out and you're this hyped?"

"You know, class, food, and sleep. Sometimes I play piano, paint, or lately, I'm into flower arranging."

Drake could picture her at a window, playing piano. She had once done it with him in the real world.

She was a good girl, but they were from different worlds.

"Alright, princess, go arrange your flowers. Stop following me," he said, patting her head. "See you, shorty."

Debra blinked. "I'm not short. And you're going the wrong way."

Drake was already too far to hear.

The quake was intense. The ground cracked open, and his mind went blank.

For a moment, he forgot this was a dream.

"Debra!" he shouted, spotting her running from the dorm.

Their eyes met, but a blinding light flashed.

Drake jolted awake, a water bowl crashing to the floor.

Debra stood by his bed, wide-eyed.

Joy surged through him. He lunged forward, hugging her tightly. "Debra, I..."

He thought he had lost her forever. Luckily, it was just a dream.
