Goodbye, Mr. Ex: I've Remarried Mr. Right novel Chapter 1857

"Wait. I haven't even checked," Debra protested, looking in the mirror.

With the red lipstick, she looked grown-up, almost like someone else.

"This goes great with your dress," Juan commented.

"Yeah, it does," she agreed, glancing at him. "How did you know? CEOs gotta learn fashion too?"

"I guessed," he replied, turning to have the product wrapped up.

Then the two of them headed back to the hotel.

Earlier, her hair had been styled in loose waves. Now her image blended with that of the real Debra.

As he stared at her, she said, "Does it look good or not? I asked you three times."

"It looks good," he said, snapping back.

"I don't know why, but in this dress and makeup, I feel like I'm looking at someone else," she said, studying her reflection.

Juan seemed to see her in real life. He said, "I'd like you to play the piano."

"Huh?" She turned. "There's no piano here."

"Remember that square we passed today?" he said. "A real stage doesn't care about the place."

That night, Debra played Chopin's Nocturne in the heart of a bustling city square. Passersby were attracted to her passion and tenderness.

"What do you think?"

"I think it was Shelia. Why else would you agree to divorce my mom for her?"

Juan ruffled her hair. "Well, I feel more guilt toward Debra than love."

"But she said you don't owe her anything," Lillian said earnestly. "She told me that we might not love only one person in our lifetimes. She said when she loved you, you didn't love her back and that when you fell in love with her, she had moved on. It was such a pity."

He stayed quiet until she left.

Then he opened his phone, revealing a picture of Debra eating dessert. It was taken 20 years ago and is now a bit pixelated.

He smiled bittersweetly, "Pity?"
