"Lillian can go to him, but you're mine," Marion said, kissing Debra's forehead. "You know I tried."

Emotions didn't come easy to him. When Lillian was born, he didn't feel the joy others did. He cared about Debra. Only with her did he feel human, not a machine.

As a kid, after his diagnosis of emotional detachment, his parents pitied him more. But he couldn't feel it.
