Marion smiled.
He'd been healed long ago, just hung up on the past.
"How was it?" William asked, eager. "How did you feel? Real? Did you relive the past?"
"Review later. I've got more important things to do," Marion said.
"Important things? What can be more important than Debra?" William blinked.
"Buying her breakfast," Marion replied, leaving the lab.
"Wait!" William called after him. "It took me 20 years of hard work, and there is no feedback?"
He eyed the half-empty vial, then grinned at Jordan. "Wanna try it?"
Jordan scoffed. "Lame."
"Don't bail," William said urgently. "This is legit, tested out by Marion Houston. No charge for Beta testers."
...
At home, Debra was still fast asleep.
Marion watched with a soft smile. His hand brushed her cheek.
In that dream, she might not have loved him, but it didn't matter. In this life, they had a happy married life.
He lay down and held her close.
The next morning, he biked to get her favorite pizza as usual.
Debra woke up. "I had a dream last night."
