Marion survived the crash, but doctors found he had lost his emotions.
Caleb fought back his grief and gave Marion a purpose to live.
A smuggling ship took him overseas. The hold stank of saltwater. He and the other kids wore only tattered blankets.
From that day, Marion had no family or identity.
They were sold to sweatshops or harvested for organs. None had a future.
While the other children cried, Marion stayed silent.
A kid asked, "Aren't you scared? We're gonna die."
Marion didn't answer.
Another kid yanked the first away. "He doesn't talk. He's a freak or a mute."
They treated him like an outcast and stayed away from him.
When the ship docked, some kids were taken.
His height let him pass as older, and his looks got him hired. By 14, he was doing quite well.
Then he met Drake and Robert. The three stuck together in the slums, like brothers.
Drake loved stealing but followed Marion's lead and got a job. His charm landed him a job at a nightclub where he was needed to win over rich women.
Robert was quiet but a fierce fighter. He took on hard labor and dirtier jobs.
But they were still undocumented, working during the day and sleeping in a leaky shack at night.
