Chapter 133
Claire was about to defend her, but Amber stopped her, Grossing her arms, she proudly said, “Why should I explain anything to you! The teachers graded it, so if you have a problem, go talk to them.”
“Aren’t you scared I’ll report you” the girl snapped, furious that Amber dared talk back like that
Amber just waved her off, her tone full of swagger. “Go on, if you’ve got the nerve!”
“Your” the girl spluttered, totally speechless.
Then Amber and Claire strutted off together, heads held high.
“Amber, the w way you talk cracks me upt7 The look on their faces was priceless,” Claire said, still laughing.
“They totally asked for it. Why should I have to prove anything to them I just want to prove it to Sienna, no, to myself” Amber replied, her voice steady and confident.
Amber glanced down at her report card, a small smile tugging at her lips. ‘Sienna would probably be a little proud of me, right?” she thought,
After all, Amber had made incredible progress. She wasn’t going to stop now. If she was going to study, she was going to go all the way–getting perfect scores in every subject was the best way to prove herself, both to Sienna and to herself.
Im going to be Sienna’s pride. Sienna likes people with good grades, right? If I become number one, then she’ll have no choice but to like only me. Vivian, Claire–they can all take a back seat. I’ll be the only one at the top Amber thought, her eyes shining with determination
Meanwhile, in the crowd, a pair of eyes were locked onto Amber’s back. Mia stared at her own report card. No matter how hard she tried, Mia still couldn’t break into the top hundred. Her bitterness toward Amber hadn’t faded one bit.
Amber, are you doing this on purpose? We used to be friends, and now you’re just trying to make me look foolish. You always said I had better grades, but now, in our last semester, you’ve crushed me. Amber, you really are calculating. And Claire too–damn her! Mia thought, resentment boiling inside her.
Mia glared at her report card, then secretly dropped a prepared letter of accusation into the principal’s mailbox before leaving without a sound
Claire took Amber straight back to her house, where they ran into Miles in the living room, reading a book. “Claire, do you have to be so loud all the ume? Miles said, his voice calm but a bit exasperated.
Why can’t this girl ever calm down! She’s so noisy every day, Miles thought, shaking his head
But when he noticed the cute girl standing next to Claire, Miles paused for a moment, then quickly apologized. “Sorry, is this your friend I won’t bother you two. Enjoy yourselves.”
Miles closed his book and looked at her. “What is it?”
“Murs, Amber’s sister is hurt. Can you help us find a doctor to treat her?” Claire sakl, her voice urgent.
Miles adjusted has glasses, realizing it wasn’t as serious as he had thought. “Alright, I’ll have the family doctor join you shortly.”
