Chapter 164
“Let’s see if we can climb out,” Winifred said, glancing around to check their surroundings.
Amber shook her head. “It’s way too deep and slippery, and it’s still raining. There’s no way we’re getting out of here.”
“Don’t bother trying. You’re not getting out of here–just wait here to die. Soon, you’ll hear a loud boom, and that’ll be Sienna dying before you.” With a laugh, Jocelyn’s voice echoed from above, dripping with malice.
Winifred clenched her fists, furious. ‘She dragged Sienna into this too? Why? Why did she have to pull her in? God damn Jocelyn Turner!‘ she thought, her heart burning with anger.
“So? Are you excited? Thrilled? I’m sending you three sisters to reunite in the underworld. Too bad Vivian slipped away and ran off abroad,” Jocelyn taunted, her voice full of mockery.
Before Jocelyn could finish her crazed rant, Amber screamed again. There was a loud bang–Winifred raised her gun and shot Jocelyn right in the head as she poked her head out.
“You… you killed her!” Amber stammered. She couldn’t see what happened, but with Jocelyn’s voice suddenly gone, she knew for sure Jocelyn was
dead.
Jocelyn had gambled everything, brazenly stealing money from the criminal underworld and hatching this insane plan. Even if she survived Winifred, there was no way she’d escape the mob’s blade. And anyway, Sienna never intended for her to walk away alive.
“If I didn’t kill her, what–wait around for her to kill you instead?” Winifred retorted.
Winifred’s words left Amber completely at a loss. She ducked her head, anxiety gnawing at her. ‘She wouldn’t actually kill me, too… right?‘ she fretted, her heart thumping wildly.
Winifred could see right through her. ‘Seriously? Does she just have to show her mind on her face? What an idiot,‘ she thought.
“What are you sneaking glances for? I have zero interest in morons. Killing you would just stain my gun. Stay away from me,” Winifred snapped.
“Hey!” Amber fumed, stomping her foot in anger–only then did she notice the water in the pit was rising fast. Panic flickered across her face. ‘Is this really how I’m going to die?‘ she thought, her heart pounding.
“Get on my shoulders and see if you can reach the edge,” Winifred said.
Amber glanced up at the distance and shook her head. “No way. It’s too far. I already measured–even if we stack up, we still can’t reach.”
Winifred–snapped, “Just get on my shoulders. Hurry up.”
Amber grudgingly stepped onto Winifred’s shoulders, letting her support her weight. “I told you it wouldn’t work, but you wouldn’t listen. Look, there’s still a huge gap up there! How are we supposed to get out?”
Winifred handed her a small knife. “Dig out the dirt and make yourself some steps to climb on.”
Amber hesitated. “But…”
“No buts. If you want to live, just do as I say. Once you’re out, pull me up too,” Winifred said.
Winifred shouted over the pouring rain. If this kept up, neither of them would make it out alive. They had to find a way to escape before the pit filled up
with water
Amber finally nodded. “Alright.”
Amber had only just started digging when she suddenly felt Winifred wobble beneath her–her footing almost gave out as Winifred staggered.

Chapter 164
“Are you okay?” Amber asked, a hint of worry in her voice.
Winifred gritted her teeth. “I’m fine. This can’t kill me.”
One of her legs had gotten caught in a trap, but luckily, she was quick enough to keep it from snapping her bone.
“I’ll stay down here, and you dig!” Amber suggested.
But before she could even finish, Winifred cut her off. “No! You’re way too scrawny to hold me up.”
Amber bristled, crouched down, and slid along the pit wall. “Who are you calling scrawny? Come on, get on my shoulders.”
“Amber, quit talking crazy! We don’t have time for this–the rain’s coming down even harder,” Winifred snapped, urgency in her voice.
