He Cheated I Rose: Making Him Regret Everything (Chloe and Arthur) novel Chapter 139

Madilyn’s patience finally wore thin. She slowly turned toward the woman sitting next to her, whose relentless chatter had been gnawing at her nerves, and forced a polite, strained smile. “Honestly, these ordinary pieces don’t catch my interest. When something truly exceptional comes up, I’ll place my own bid.”

“Oh, I understand… I’m really looking forward to that moment!” Virginia responded, deliberately stretching out her words with a hint of mock enthusiasm.

Inside, Madilyn was seething. She longed to silence Virginia’s incessant talking. Why did this woman have to be so irritatingly loquacious?

Shortly afterward, a stunning vintage diamond necklace from the previous century appeared on the auction block, its starting price set at six million.

Without waiting for the host to finish describing it, Madilyn confidently called out, “Eight million.”

For her very first bid, she had already raised the price by two million. This bold move immediately attracted the attention of many attendees.

Virginia, sitting close by, merely pursed her lips in mild disapproval, clearly unimpressed.

The bidding escalated rapidly. An Eldermaran noble raised his paddle and offered ten million.

“Twelve million,” Madilyn countered firmly, making her resolve unmistakably clear.

With poise, Madilyn glanced toward Jennifer under the watchful eyes of the crowd. “Jennifer, do you like this necklace? I’d love to get it for you.”

Jennifer caught the meaning behind Madilyn’s look and understood her part in the game. She smiled softly. “Mrs. Myers, you’re far too generous! If you truly want it, just let me win the bid—I’ll consider it a gift to you.”

After saying this, Jennifer shyly glanced over at Arthur.

When the price hit thirteen million, Jennifer wasted no time and immediately raised it to fifteen million.

The rival bidder, clearly overhearing their exchange, chose not to respond. At last, the diamond necklace was secured for fifteen million.

Arthur remained seated, paying the amount without a single complaint. At Joseph’s auctions, it was customary for invited guests to purchase at least one or two items as a gesture of support.

Since a purchase was expected anyway, Arthur didn’t particularly care what was bought.

His attention, however, wasn’t on the auction items at all. His gaze kept drifting toward Chloe, who was seated beside Eugene. His mind refused to settle.

“Ms. Lewis, thank you for staying late tonight. If anything catches your eye, just let me know. I’ll make sure it’s yours as a token of the company’s appreciation,” Landon said earnestly.

Joseph laughed heartily at the comment.

“Employers like yours are truly one in a million, Ms. Lewis! I’m already excited for the launch of your Four Seasons collection,” Joseph added with an amused chuckle.
