**TITLE: A Promise Hidden in the Quiet Rain by Adrian Hale**
**Chapter 178: The Airport Escape Plan**
Firushed
Arthur fixed Chloe with a piercing gaze, his laughter cold and mocking, a sound devoid of warmth. “Is this really the path you’ve chosen?” he challenged, his voice dripping with disdain. “Everything you’ve done—wasn’t it all just to prove a point to me? To show that you could land a job, that you could stand on your own two feet? Well, congratulations, you succeeded. And look where that has led you.”
A faint, self-deprecating smile ghosted across Arthur’s lips, almost as if he found amusement in her plight. “Chloe, why are you still putting on this tough facade? If you’re in need of money, just say it. I won’t hold back, even after the divorce.”
Chloe felt a chill run through her as she turned her gaze away, her eyes fixating on the blurred scenery outside the window. It dawned on her that Arthur was driving them straight toward the airport.
“Are you seriously taking me to the airport?” she asked, her voice laced with irritation.
“Indeed.” Arthur didn’t flinch or sugarcoat the truth. He laid his cards on the table, his tone matter-of-fact. “I’ve arranged everything for your departure. Forget about that online chaos—I’ll handle it. I have contacts ready to pick you up overseas. You’ll leave this city behind, and you won’t look back.”
His eyes remained fixed on the road ahead, an unsettling calmness enveloping him, as if he believed he had discovered the perfect solution to their tangled mess.
“You’ll leave first. I’ll send Robert to join you as soon as I can. Once you’re both settled, just live quietly. If I manage to find the time, perhaps I’ll come visit.”
“Chloe, please, enough with the stubbornness.”
As she listened to him, a sharp, bitter laugh threatened to escape her lips—how absurd it all felt.
So, he wanted to tuck her away like some illicit secret? Only a true fool would consider this a clever strategy.
Arthur—blind to reason, blind to his own heart, and now it seemed his mind had completely short-circuited.
A sardonic smile curled at the corners of her mouth, sharp as a knife’s edge.
All she felt was disgust.
Chloe glanced at her phone, her heart racing as she noted the time. Only thirty minutes remained until the press conference was set to begin. They were hurtling toward the airport, the exact opposite direction from the Cosmos News Center. With every passing second, she felt the weight of precious time slipping away from her grasp.
This crisis had been ignited by her own actions. She didn’t need anyone else to clean up her mess; she was more than capable of handling it on her own.
Above all, she didn’t require Arthur’s help.
Once she made a decision, turning back would only serve to make her look foolish.
