He Cheated I Rose: Making Him Regret Everything (Chloe and Arthur) novel Chapter 269

**TITLE: A Promise Hidden in the Quiet Rain by Adrian Hale**

**Chapter 269: Cheaper Than Dirt**

She actually agreed?

The thought echoed in Arthur’s mind, but the chill on Chloe’s face suggested she was far from receptive.

Finished.

Arthur found himself still entrenched in his performance, desperately trying to suppress the guilt gnawing at his insides. “Chloe,” he implored, his voice trembling with sincerity. “I want to make this right. I regret everything I did. I mean it.”

Watching him, her heart twisted with a mix of anger and pity. His lovesick act was nauseating.

“Chloe, I’m truly sorry! I really am! If I could turn back time, I would never treat you that way again,” he blurted out, his head hung low, the words tumbling out in a frantic rush, as if he feared they might escape him altogether.

“This marriage with Jennifer—it was all my mother’s idea. I had no choice in the matter. I deserve whatever comes my way.” His fingers curled tighter around hers, desperation lacing his voice. “Chloe, I finally understand—you’re the only one I truly care about. I have no feelings for Jennifer.”

“Robert needs a father,” he continued, his tone pleading. “Please, just give me one chance. Let me take care of both of you.”

“Chloe—”

“Enough.” Her voice sliced through his desperate pleas—icy, unyielding.

Arthur lifted his gaze, a flicker of hope igniting within him. Perhaps, just perhaps, his heartfelt words had penetrated her icy exterior.

But as their eyes locked, he was met with a gaze that was as frigid as the winter winds. She shifted her hand, twisting his grip and capturing his wrist with a strength that took him by surprise.

“Chloe, you—” He began, about to unleash his charm, but then a sharp, searing pain shot through his wrist. His fingers instinctively released their hold.

Arthur was left in a state of disbelief, stunned by the sudden turn of events. The force of Chloe’s grip was extraordinary; it was something he never would have expected from her.

Since when had Chloe become this formidable?

“Arthur,” she said, her voice laced with disdain, “love that comes this late is cheaper than dirt. And what you’re doing right now? It’s just pathetic.” Her words dripped with contempt. “If you want to ruin your life, be my guest. But I warned you—don’t come here and make me sick. What I’ve discarded, I will never pick up again.”

With that, she turned on her heel, ready to walk away.

Panic surged through Arthur, and he instinctively reached out for her again. Chloe anticipated his move. She spun around, her hand slicing through the air as she delivered a sharp slap across his face.
