Chapter 294 The Family Fight
“She was my wife. And that’s how I treated her. What does that say about me?” Arthur let out a bitter, mocking laugh.

“She’s your ex–wife. You look so defeated and down right now–it turns my stomach.” Madilyn’s voice was sharp with anger. She stepped forward and slapped him hard across the face.
She didn’t hold back. The force sent him stumbling. If a staff member hadn’t caught him, he would have fallen.
Arthur sank to the floor anyway–a complete mess. He stared at Madilyn, standing there in her expensive clothes, the hand that hit him still raised. His own mother. He started to laugh. It came out wild and broken.
His laughter echoed through the hall, thin and hollow.
“Arthur, get a grip. You and Chloe are over. Where’s your backbone?” Madilyn snapped. “Do you have any idea what you’ve just done to Myers Group? If public opinion turns, who’s going to cover the losses?”
“I said what I did because I’m ready to face the consequences. I’ll take the fall myself.” Arthur’s eyes locked on Madilyn, suddenly hard. “Mom–no. We’re at the company. I should call you Mrs. Madilyn Myers. I’m the CEO here. As long as I hold this position, the final call is mine. Right?”
“You” Madilyn was speechless.
“If it’s my fault, why push the blame on someone else? Wasn’t this what I should do?” Arthur pushed himself up, a little unsteady. He wiped a thin line of blood from the corner of his mouth.
“Did you even think about Jennifer? What you just did throws her right into the fire. The public will tear her apart. She’ll be too scared to show her face.” Madilyn brought up Jennifer. All the time, she wondered–what was the reason Jennifer spoke of that Arthur couldn’t say no to marrying her?
If Jennifer really had something on him, why hadn’t she used it yet? Things were already out of control.
“Jennifer knows exactly what she did.”
Arthur shot Madilyn a sharp look, his voice turning cold. “Why are you protecting Jennifer all of a sudden? I remember when she first came back–you couldn’t stand her. What changed?”
Madilyn froze. She took a step back without thinking. Arthur saw that flicker of fear clearly.
“Or does Jennifer have something on you, Mrs. Madilyn Myers? Is that why you’re bending over backwards for her?” Arthur let out a cold laugh, then scanned the executives and board members around them.
“If Myers Group can’t handle a little heat like this, then maybe we deserve to go under. If you trust me, get back to work. If not, you’re free to leave. I promise this any shareholder who wants out now will get twice. their share value.”
The hall went quiet. People exchanged looks. No one pushed back. Who would argue with an offer like that?
Soon the crowd thinned. Staff slipped away quietly. Only Donald stayed by Arthur’s side.
“Get PR on the online situation. Myers Group needs to make its position clear,” Arthur told Donald. He didn’t even glance at Madilyn as he turned to leave.
He had only taken a few steps when her voice cut through behind him.

“Have you thought this through? When your grandfather sees what you’ve done to the company, he might just take it all back from you.”
Arthur stopped but didn’t speak.
“He put you in charge himself. Now he wakes up to this mess–do you think he won’t be so angry he collapses again?” Madilyn raised her voice on purpose, making sure the remaining shareholders heard every word.
The news that Charles had woken up was more deserving of attention than anything.
