He Cheated I Rose: Making Him Regret Everything (Chloe and Arthur) novel Chapter 297

**A Promise Hidden in the Quiet Rain by Adrian Hale**
**Chapter 297: A Secret Plan**

Arthur stood at the precipice of an enormous legacy—the sole heir to the Myers family fortune. The weight of an entire business empire rested on his shoulders, a mantle that demanded not just responsibility but also a vision for the future. In the eyes of Charles, the patriarch, the prospect of this legacy being passed on was paramount. If Chloe bore the child, Charles was resolute in his acceptance of that heir, regardless of the circumstances.

In the shadows of his thoughts, Charles devised a cunning plan. Without uttering a word to Chloe, he sought out a man—one he deemed to possess the right genes, the right traits. The scheme was simple yet fraught with moral ambiguity: he would have this man impersonate Arthur, seducing Chloe in the hope of igniting a pregnancy. Charles’s reasoning was straightforward; as long as Chloe was the mother, any child born from this union would be seen as the rightful heir in his eyes.

However, fate had its own designs, and the plan unraveled in ways Charles could not have anticipated. The man he had chosen failed to fulfill his role, leaving Arthur blissfully unaware of the machinations swirling around him. Just when Charles believed his scheme had crumbled to dust, an unexpected twist revealed that it might still bear fruit.

In time, Chloe and Arthur exchanged vows, stepping into a marriage that was devoid of the warmth of love. Charles held onto a flicker of hope, believing that the passage of time might bridge the chasm between them. Yet, no one, least of all Charles, anticipated the twists that lay ahead.

He never wished for Chloe and Arthur to drift apart. The finality of their separation weighed heavily on him, an indelible mark on his conscience. He understood Chloe well; once she made the decision to walk away from Arthur, she would not look back.

“Chloe, does Arthur have any inkling about this?” Charles inquired, his voice laced with trepidation, desperately clinging to a thread of hope.

“Whether he knows or not is irrelevant,” Chloe replied tersely, her tone clipped. “Don’t fret. I won’t disclose that he’s unable to have children.”

“Thank you,” Charles murmured, his head drooping in shame, the weight of their shared secret pressing down on him.

“I need you to promise me something,” Chloe said, her voice low yet resolute. This wasn’t a mere request; it was an ultimatum. “Arthur believes that Jennifer is his true love. Let him hold onto that illusion. Some truths are better left unspoken.”

Charles absorbed her words, the gravity of her request sinking in. He refrained from arguing, merely offering a slight nod in understanding.

“I must take my leave now. Arthur is on his way to see you,” Chloe stated as she glanced at her phone, her demeanor calm and composed. She stood, ready to exit the room.

Just as she reached for the door, Charles called out, his voice tinged with urgency.

“Chloe, I know my time is limited—if luck is on my side, I might have a year left. I’m not certain how much longer I can endure. I just hope you’ll still have the kindness to speak with me occasionally while I’m here. Please don’t vanish from my life entirely.” His voice trembled, a mix of fear and desperation.

“I truly see you as my own granddaughter. Regardless of who Robert’s father is, I’ve embraced him as my grandson. Could you allow me the chance to visit him sometimes?” His voice cracked, weariness evident in every syllable. A harsh cough erupted from him, shaking his frail body after he finished speaking.

“I promise,” Chloe replied softly, her heart aching for him.

Seeing his fragile state, she offered her assurance before she opened the door and stepped out into the world beyond.
