Carolyn stood frozen, unable to process the scene unfolding before her. The mother she had always looked up to–how could she be capable of such a thing? With that man, Ernesto, who had just been caught with another woman. The man who was right here in the room.
A deafening roar filled her head as fragmented memories clicked into place–the man sitting with her mother at that discreet restaurant, her mother’s familiar, relaxed demeanor around him. Had this been going on for years?
She remained rooted to the spot, so dazed she didn’t even hear Monique calling her name.
“Carolyn! Smash the screen–break it!” Monique’s voice was ragged. When Carolyn still didn’t move, Monique clawed her way up from the floor, her hair wild and disheveled.
She spotted a nearby chair, seized it, and began hacking violently at the giant display. After several heavy blows, the screen finally cracked and went dark.
The images were gone, but the audio continued to play–Monique’s own voice, breathy and eager, praising Ernesto. “Turn it off!” she screamed, her voice now completely hoarse.
Finally, with a sharp click, the sound cut off. The main lights flickered back on, restoring power to the ballroom.
On the stage, Monique slumped back to the floor in a pitiful state–makeup streaked, body trembling with exertion and panic. No one could miss the sheer desperation in her attack on the hotel’s property.
Scott looked down at her, his expression unreadable. What he saw wasn’t remorse, but the raw terror of someone caught. For the first time, he felt genuine disgust–even revulsion–toward the woman he had called his wife.
Everyone in the room had witnessed those images. His dignity, the Lewis family’s honor–it had all been ground into the dust.
At this point, dignity was the least of his concerns.
“Monique,” Scott said, his voice icy. “I have never treated you poorly all these years. I was even considering how to make things right for you and Carolyn. It seems my concern was entirely misplaced.”
Hearing him speak, Monique scrambled up and lunged toward him.
“Scott, it’s not what you think! Please, let me explain!”
She threw herself forward, expecting him to catch her. Instead, Scott took a deliberate step back, his face a mask of contempt. She stumbled and fell hard at his feet.
“Explain? How laughable. What could you possibly explain now?” His tone was frigid. “Monique, we’re through. I want a divorce.”
The word divorce shattered her last shred of composure. She clutched at his ankle. “Scott, you can’t do this to me! That video was fake! How could I ever do such a thing? I’m your wife!”
Suddenly, as if grasping for any defense, she pointed a shaking finger at Chloe. “It was her! She framed me!

You all heard her–she knew about the separate power supply for the screen! How would she know that unless she planned this? She fabricated everything to destroy me!”
Scott let out a cold, dismissive laugh. “You’re still lying even now? Do you think something like that could be faked so casily?”
