ter 51 The Interview

As a junior designer, Chloe knew her portfolio wouldn’t normally reach the company’s top executive. The interviewer had to be the regional director, just as she’d assumed.
Oh well!
Whoever waited upstairs, she’d face them directly. No point feeling nervous.
The elevator chimed softly as it reached the top floor. When the doors slid open, Chloe straightened her posture, ran her fingers through her hair, and stepped out with confident grace.
The office door stood slightly open. The hallway was completely empty, and the entire floor remained silent.
The staff member had mentioned that the director of Cosmos Group was already inside, waiting for her.
Since they were expecting her, there was no reason to hesitate. She reached out, pushed the door open gently, and walked inside.
The spacious office featured massive floor–to–ceiling windows that presented a breathtaking panoramic view of the city below.
The main executive chair stood empty, but someone was seated at the desk with his back turned toward her. Though she couldn’t see his face, there was something strangely familiar about his silhouette.
Who could this be…?
“You…”
Hearing her voice, the man turned around slowly, and Chloe finally saw his face clearly.
When she realized it was Eugene sitting there, she froze momentarily.
Wait… Eugene?
Eugene was actually the director of Cosmos Group? Seriously?
Chloe raised an eyebrow, studying Eugene for a long moment before finally speaking. “And you are?”
“You must be Chloe?” A new, unfamiliar voice came from the side. Immediately afterward, another tall figure emerged from a nearby room.
Chloe looked at the man and gave a soft nod.
Landon wore a sharp black suit that made him look quite polished. His gaze briefly shifted toward Eugene, who remained lounging casually at the desk, before quickly focusing on Chloe.
“Hello, I’m Landon Voss. Pleasure to meet you!” Landon said as he took the seat clearly reserved for the boss.
Chloe watched the exchange, glancing between Eugene and Landon before responding, “I’m Chloe Lewis.”

“I’ve personally reviewed your design portfolio. I believe you have remarkable potential” Landon’s usual casual demeanor vanished, replaced by complete professionalism. Before we discuss salary, may I ask how familiar you are with Cosmos Group, Ms. Lewis?”
“I have some understanding.” Chloe didn’t hesitate to point out both the company’s strengths and several issues she had observed.
Landon listened intently, watching Chloe for a while before slowly beginning to applaud.
“Outstanding! I knew I had chosen the right candidate. You possess genuine potential. On behalf of Cosmos Group, welcome to our team.” Landon stood up and extended his hand toward Chloe.
Chloe smiled at his sincere expression and stepped forward to take his hand.
“The honor is mine.”
Landon held Chloe’s hand, his smile warm.
Eugene remained lounging in his chair, but his eyes drifted toward where Landon was shaking Chloe’s hand. He raised his eyebrows slightly, his expression difficult to read, though for a brief moment, the atmosphere in the large office seemed to grow colder.
Landon sensed the subtle change in the room. Feeling a slight chill on the back of his neck, he quickly released Chloe’s hand and offered an easy smile.
“Ms. Lewis, allow me to introduce a friend. This is one of our investors, Mr. Rosewood!” Landon said, trying to sound casual as he gestured toward Eugene.
Chloe looked at Eugene sitting nearby and smiled. “What an unexpected coincidence, Mr. Rosewood!”
Eugene’s expression remained unchanged, though the corners of his lips curved slightly. “Indeed, Ms. Lewis.”
“You two already know each other?” Landon asked, feigning surprise while looking between them with curiosity.
Chloe replied calmly, “In a manner of speaking.”
