her surprise, the high–profile Eugene appeared to be genuinely enjoying these dishes.
Well, he was actually pretty down–to–earth!
“Give this a try too–it’s delicious.” Chloe used her fork to serve some food onto Eugene’s plate.

Eugene looked down at what she’d put on his plate. He paused for a beat, then lifted his gaze to meet hers.
Noticing his hesitation, Chloe stopped. “You don’t care for smoked pork belly?”
“It’s alright,” Eugene responded quietly. He picked up the piece of smoked pork belly she’d just given him and ate it without further comment.
“Did you see that guy in the corner? He’s so handsome!”
“He’s so tall and has that celebrity look. I’ve never seen anyone that good–looking before.”
“I kind of want to go ask his name…”
Just behind Chloe, a group of young women who appeared to be students were huddled together, whispering excitedly.
Though Chloe could hear every word clearly, she chose to ignore them, Eugene, meanwhile, seemed completely focused on the various snacks covering their table.
When they’d both eaten their fill, Chloe stood to settle the bill. After all, she’d insisted this meal was her
treat.
She also asked the shop owner to package some desserts to take home for Robert. After paying and turning around, she saw one of the whispering girls had approached their table and was speaking to Eugene.
Eugene remained perfectly calm and offered a brief reply. Then the girl immediately looked crestfallen- she turned and hurried away. When she rejoined her friends, they crowded around her, and it appeared she’d shed tears.
Watching the scene unfold, Chloe couldn’t help her curiosity. What could Eugene possibly have said to reduce the girl to tears?
She gathered her belongings and walked over to him. Seeing her approach, he rose to his feet.
“Ready to go?”
“Yep.” She nodded and led the way out,
Eugene followed close behind. As they exited the snack bar, Chloe thought she could hear the group of girls muttering complaints.
“She got so lucky!”
Lucky?

Chapter 55 The Cool Investor
Who was lucky?

Puzzled, Chloe glanced at the man walking beside her. “What did that girl want from you? What did you say? She looked really upset!”
“Nothing important. She asked for my phone number. I declined,” Eugene replied.
Hearing this, Chloe simply said, “Oh.” She supposed it was typical for someone like Eugene to refuse such
requests.
“That’s pretty harsh. It must’ve taken guts for her to approach you.” One shot, and that’s it–she’s probably mortified. Poor thing–she’s chosen the wrong guy. Who would’ve guessed Eugene would be so unreachable?
“Not my concern,” Eugene stated simply, continuing to walk.
Chloe didn’t press the matter further.
They left the pedestrian street behind and returned to where they’d parked.
“Need a ride back?” Chloe played with her car keys while looking at Eugene.
“My ride’s here.” As he spoke, a black sedan pulled up in front of them. Bruce was behind the wheel and waved politely at Chloe.
Chloe glanced at Eugene. “Well then, Mr. Rosewood, I’ll be on my way.” With that, she walked directly to her
own car.
Eugene stood watching as she drove off. Only when her red sports car had completely vanished from sight did a subtle smile finally appear on his lips.

When Chloe arrived home, Robert was video chatting with someone. The moment he heard her come in, he quickly ended the call.
“Who were you talking to?” Chloe approached and set the packaged desserts on the table.
Seeing the desserts, Robert immediately reached for them and began eating eagerly.
“I was talking to Zachary. He found a few good kindergarten options for me. He said he’ll send you the information so you can choose.” Robert then pouted slightly. “Mommy, Zachary thinks I should go to Sunny Kindergarten!”
Zachary was the lawyer who had helped Chloe with her divorce proceedings. They’d been friends for years, and she’d entrusted him with handling the divorce this time around.
Zachary had once played video games with Robert and been soundly defeated, so the two had become fast
friends ever since.
