Chapter 18 Special Care for Houston
Ethan’s accusations pointed directly at Houston, but Rose dismissed them outright.
“He’s not that immature, she replied firmly
Ethan’s frustration boiled over. “Just tell me who the guy was that dropped you off! I need to settle this with him.
Rose’s voice was sharp and distant. “Ethan, getting beaten up should make you question whether your actions brought this upon yourself, rather than acting like a crazy person and accusing my friend. Leave. If you show up to bother me late at night again, I won’t hesitate to involve the police.”
She shut the door with a decisive slam.
Ethan stood frozen, staring at the firmly closed door in shock. Rose had completely disregarded his wounds. The vast difference between the care she once showed him and her current indifference left Ethan feeling an indescribable sense of imbalance. “Rose, it’s fine if you won’t say anything. I’ll find out on my own. But you’d better warn him to watch out; he won’t get away with this, he said bitterly.
To Rose, his outburst was nothing more than a childish display. She couldn’t be bothered to entertain it.
“Houston would never lower himself to such petty behavior, she thought, disregarding Ethan’s allegations entirely.
The next morning, Rose arrived at work refreshed and ready.
Her absence had left her schedule packed, with many patients begging for extra slots. True to her accommodating nature, Rose found it difficult to refuse anyone.
Toward the end of her shift, an unexpected visitor walked into her office.
Houston entered casually, seating himself with ease, his gaze warm and steady on her.
kose stared at him in surprise.
Houston, why are you here?”
As his wife, she could easily handle his checkup after work to save him the trouble.
Houston’s smile carried a hint of mischief
His main reason for visiting wasn’t medical–it was to ensure Ethan’s incident hadn’t caused any issues for Kose.

time, so I thought I’d stop by to see you,” he said smoothly.
Rose’s cheeks flushed with a faint blush, her composure momentarily faltering.
Houston found her reaction endearing, her shy demeanor a sharp contrast to her usual composed elegance.
He extended his hand without hesitation.
Rose, using her medical expertise, lightly rested her fingers on his wrist to check his pulse. “How have you been sleeping she asked with fucus
“Not well, Houston replied, a trace of complaint in his voice.
Rose’s brows knitted together as anything been stressing you out recently?
Houston locked eyes with her. I got married, but my wife hasn’t come home. I can’t stop worrying about her. Does that
count?”
Rose stifled a laugh but quickly composed herself at the seriousness in his expression. “So I’m the reason you’re not sleeping
Houston nodded.
Rose let out a soft sigh. “My mom’s condition has stabilized. I’ll let her know about us soon. Houston, and I’ll come home.”
Houston’s smile grew, satisfaction lighting up his face.
Rose, noticing potential signs of health concerns, asked further questions. “Have you been avoiding the foods you’re sensitive to!”
As they entered, Rose caught snippets of a commotion outside, followed by the stern voice of the deputy director scolding the gathered crowd. “Keep whatever you saw to yourselves. Some people are not for you to gossip about.”
The chatter outside instantly died down.
Kose frowned slightly, confused. What happened out there?
As Rose frowned in puzzlement, Houston thought she looked irresistibly cute. How could anyone be so oblivious to public figures and so completely immersed in the academic world?
After sitting down, Houston picked up the menu and began ordering
When Rose glanced at the dishes he chose, she lit up. “Houston, you ordered everything I love!”
Houston smiled knowingly.
He had deliberately selected her favorite dishes. But when a parade of plates filled the table, Rose was stunned.
“Houston, there’s no way we can eat all this. It’s way too much food!”
Houston’s eyes softened as he looked at her. “I just want to make sure you eat well, gain a little weight, and maybe give me a few beautiful kids”
Rose’s checks flushed crimson.
Houston gently lifted her face, his gaze settling on her lips, which looked even more inviting due to her blush. He leaned in slowly
Just as their lips were about to touch, he paused, his voice low and tender. “Rose, is this okay?”
Rose’s palms grew clammy with nerves as Ethan and Vivian’s cruel words echoed in her mind.
Uncertainty filled her mind. Would Houston feel disappointed in my lack of experience? Would he question his decision to choose me?” Would he see me differently because of it?
But she knew she had to take this step forward..
Blushing, she nodded timidly.
