He Watched Me Shine Without Him novel Chapter 64

Rose was taken aback by Houston's sudden heartfelt confession, and she shyly replied, "Mm. I know."

Then she hung up the phone bashfully.

Houston fell silent.

Is that it?

Doesn't she say she loves me back?

Houston hung up the phone with a sense of helplessness. The smile on his face disappeared instantly, replaced by a cold, icy expression.

He turned and walked towards the company's warehouse.

In the warehouse, where smart parts were piled up like mountains, the lighting was deliberately dim. As Houston entered, he saw a woman sitting on a stool in the distance with her head bowed low. Her hands and feet were tied, and her mouth was covered with tape.

A faint smile curled the corner of Houston's lips as his dark figure approached step by step. "Ms. Anna."

Anna lifted her head forcefully, revealing a face smeared with blood and a pair of terrified eyes.

Houston gestured to Daniel, who quickly understood and tore off the tape from Anna's mouth, causing her to gasp in pain.

"Mr. Clarke, you can't do this to me. I'm the assistant to Mr. Maxwell. Touching me is like declaring war on him," Anna pleaded.

Houston sneered, "Ms. Anna, did you think he was your shield, so you could ignore my orders? Defying my will to sneak around my wife, I see you're tired of living. Daniel, since Ms. Anna doesn't want to live, pull out her teeth, flay her skin, and torture her to death as a warning to others."

Anna's previously calm demeanor shattered instantly, and she wailed, "Mr. Clarke, I was wrong. Please spare me. I'll never disobey you again."

Houston turned his back to her but raised his hand. "Begin."

Daniel signaled to the masked man beside him. The masked man, holding a strange and grotesque instrument of punishment, approached Anna.

Soon, Anna's screams of agony filled the air, and bright red teeth began to appear on the ground.

Suddenly, the warehouse door was violently smashed open from the outside.

"Ryan, stop this right now."

Maxwell, seeing Anna covered in blood, widened his eyes in shock. He stormed over, furious. "Ryan, you dare to harm my people? You're really not putting me, your grandfather, in your eyes, are you?"

Maxwell looked at Houston's flawless, handsome face. "I originally disagreed because I thought a girl from a humble background wasn't good enough for you. But seeing how much better you look now compared to before, I've changed my mind.

Your recent good sleep must be thanks to her. So I can agree to let her into the Clarke family. But before that, I want to meet her personally. As long as she's of good character and truly loves you, I'll bless your marriage."

Houston was inexplicably hesitant.

After a long while, he said dejectedly, "She doesn't love me."

Maxwell's eyes widened in disbelief, as if he had heard a fairy tale. "Haha, is there a woman in this world who doesn't love you?"

Houston glared at him miserably. "Do you think everyone is like those Clarke women, scheming to get into the wealthy family for money and status?"

Maxwell pursed his lips. "I don't like hearing that. Those women didn't just marry into the family for the money. It's mainly because your uncles and brothers are quite good-looking."

Houston was even more speechless.

Maxwell got back on track, "Since Rose doesn't love you, why marry her? There are so many noble ladies in this prestigious family who like you. Why did you choose a woman who doesn't love you?”
