Chapter 192
But Jordan couldn’t do that just yet. He needed to force the truth out of whoever was pulling the strings before he could take them down.
The most important thing right now was to get Stella to the hospital as soon as possible.
Anna had come to visit Max today. Early in the morning, the doctor had called her to say that Max had woken up, but his physical functions still hadn’t fully recovered and he’d need some time to rest and heal.
As soon as Anna stepped out of the car, she spotted Jordan. Anna thought, ‘Monroe said that Jordan wasn’t supposed to be back for another two days. So why is he here now?
And he’s with Kevin. He’s hurrying into the hospital with someone in his arms. Who is that? Is that Stella?‘
Suddenly, a wave of unease welled up inside her. Anna quickly called Andrew, told him what happened, and urged him to call the police right
away.
The police got back to them almost immediately, but said there was nothing they could do–unless they kept it from. Jordan. Otherwise, they were afraid this time they’d even end up offending Kevin.
Andrew immediately called Anna back to fill her in on what was going on. Andrew was honestly terrified of Jordan. If Jordan really decided to make a scene, it was never just for show.
Especially that first time Jordan had come home with Stella and roughed Max up–Andrew could still picture it like it was yesterday.
Anna knew exactly what was going on and forced herself to stay calm. She said, “Dad, don’t freak out. Let’s not scare ourselves for nothing. What if they can’t trace it back to us? And remember, we’ve still got Monroe on our side.”
Andrew said, “Right, call Monroe right now! I told you that he’s the one who got that other group to go ‘deal with‘ Stella. He’ll definitely cover for you.”
Anna wasn’t worried at all. She thought, ‘Monroe is such an idiot. There’s no way he’ll figure anything out. He’ll just end up helping me without even realizing it.’
But what Anna didn’t expect was that no matter how many times she tried, she just couldn’t get through to Monroe.
Just as Anna was about to give up, the call finally connected. But instead of Monroe, an authoritative old man’s voice came through. “Anna?”
Anna reacted fast, blurting out, “Sorry, wrong number.” Then she was about to hang up, but the other side didn’t give her a chance.
“Anna, I know it’s you. Even if you hang up, I’ll still find you,” the old man said.
Anna didn’t say a word.
The old man continued, “I never bothered to talk to you before because I figured Moran would ditch you sooner or later. But I didn’t expect him to go this far for you–using my power behind my back. I can’t just ignore this anymore.
“He’s with me right now. If you want to see him, come here. I’ll let you meet him face–to–face. So, are you coming or not?”
“My brother is awake. I need to go see him,” Anna replied. With that, she hung up the phone.
At the Johnson residence. Arthur had the call on speaker the whole time. When Anna hung up so decisively, he turned to Monroe.

He said, “See that? That’s the girl you like so much. She knows you’ll be in trouble with me, but she doesn’t even bother to show up. You love her that much, but does she really love you?”
When Monroe heard that Anna wasn’t coming, he felt a bit disappointed, but honestly, he was more relieved. If she had come, he didn’t know what his grandfather might have done to her.
Monroe raised his head and said, “Grandpa, she doesn’t know anything. There’s no point in talking to her. I heard how badly she was treated, so i went behind her back and did all this. Grandpa, you can’t blame her.”
Arthur was actually amused by him. “Humph! Even now, you’re still defending her? If she had actually come today, I could’ve just let her be your mistress in secret, turned a blind eye and acted like nothing ever happened, but she really let me down.”
Monroe said seriously, “Grandpa, I never wanted her to be just my mistress. I want to marry her, make her my official wife,”
“What did you say?” Arthur said.
“I said,” Monroe repeated. “I want her to be my wife. We’ll register our marriage and I’ll throw her a grand wedding.”
Arthur slapped him hard across the face. “Don’t you dare say that again!”
No matter how many times Arthur demanded, Monroe refused to back down.
Arthur raised his hand and said, “Time for some family discipline.”
Then a servant quickly brought over a whip.
At the hospital. This wasn’t the first time the doctors had seen Stella. They knew she was a high–profile figure, and with Kevin and Jordan accompanying her this time, there was no way they’d dare to slack off on her treatment.
Compared to her own family before, it was obvious that Kevin and Jordan genuinely cared about Stella. They were anxiously waiting outside, desperate for any news about her condition.
The hospital director had made it clear: Stella needed a thorough and careful examination. If anything went wrong, they couldn’t afford to take any chances.
After the nurses and doctors finished their tense examination, their hearts ached for Stella. Even though they’d seen countless patients, they couldn’t help but feel heartbroken for her.
One doctor stepped out to report to Kevin and Jordan, “She has a lot of external injuries, but internally, she’s stable for now. However, she hasn’t been eating, which could affect her health. Just keep taking care of her the way you have been.
“Luckily, it hasn’t been too long, so we can still help her recover. But as for her external injuries, except for all the bruises, we also found a lot of tiny marks on her body—really, really small ones.
“After discussing it, we realized they were needle marks, the kind used in traditional torture methods from the old days.”
Kevin’s hands clenched into fists. He thought, ‘Even back in ancient times, that was considered great torture. And now, someone actually used it on Stella? Who the hell would do something like this to Stella?‘
Jordan’s eyes were full of hatred, but he forced himself to stay calm and asked, “Are there any other injuries?”
“Yes, but they’re… more private,” the doctor said. Then he glanced at Kevin.
Kevin got the message right away and walked away first. Then the doctor leaned in and whispered something to Jordan. As soon as Jordan
