A flash of golden light passed before her eyes, and when Elowen looked up, she saw Benjamin standing in front of Thalia.
"Elowen," he called her name, using the same face and voice as Lucan. And yet, it felt entirely different.
Elowen had always known that the man before her was no longer her dragon. What was lost would never return.
Even if his dragon bones were reforged and a new soul born from them, it would never be the one she once knew.
That said, none of that sorrow made her regret once sacrificing her divine soul.
He might not be a dragon anymore, but he had become the sole Dragon Vein beneath the Divine Power, a living echo of what once was.
All Elowen wanted this time, appearing as herself, was to see him with her own eyes—to reach out and touch him one last time.
What a shame she hadn't gotten to taste more of this world's delicacies. The mortal realm, so full of mischief and wonder, was no longer the one she remembered.
"Don't worry. They'll be back."
Whether that was the Jensen brothers, Louise, or Shannon.
Elowen continued, "The Ten-Tailed Elythune exists only by the will of the Divine Power. If the Divine Power ceases to exist, the birth of a new Ten-Tailed Elythune would require recognition from another source of faith."
That source of faith was none other than humanity.
Though the world's spiritual energy had depleted, the Divine Power had left the greater portion of it to humankind—a sign of its favor toward the human race.
Thus, in the absence of the Divine Power, it was the belief of humanity that held greater weight. It was also why some said human determination could overcome fate and natural forces.
Among all forms of belief, it was the faith and recognition of family that mattered most.
For Shannon, it was this very recognition, the unwavering choice from her mother, that determined whether she could truly retain the power of the Ten-Tailed Elythune.
Had she not been chosen with such resolve, she would've never been able to hold onto that power, never mind reaching the deepest part of the Ten-Tailed's domain.
Thalia had just pulled herself out of the difficult decision, but hearing Elowen's explanation, her heart went numb.
It was also then that an unfamiliar voice pierced the silence. The familiar phoenix's presence surged forth, coupled with a voice tinged with urgency and a hint of helplessness.
"Ella!"
Elowen froze for a moment, turning her head to look. She saw a phoenix flame flicker beside her, which then took the shape of a human.
However, the figure seemed unstable, the soul still wavering, and the form looked somewhat ethereal.
It was none other than Velquin, whose soul had been forcibly pulled out of Vlad's body by Shannon and Trevaris not long ago.
He had been devoured for over a thousand years. His soul had suffered immense damage, constantly suppressed and reborn through the cycle.
Though he had borrowed Trevaris' body for nurturing and had received Benjamin's golden light as a boost, he could barely form a complete human shape even after a day's effort.
But thankfully, he had made it.
"Ella!" he called out once again.
