Thalia hadn't expected to walk into a scene like this the moment they entered the alternate world—two Mikes, locked in a life-or-death struggle.
She asked what was going on, but truth be told, Lexie and the others were just as baffled. The alternate Mike going berserk and trying to kill someone was shocking enough, but why did their Mike suddenly lose control too?
Something about this felt deeply wrong.
While the group stood confused, the porcelain doll, Velquin, which Elliot had been holding the whole time, suddenly floated into the air.
Then, phoenix flames erupted around both Mikes.
Compared to their world, the power of phoenix in the alternate world was suppressed. The flickering flames barely cloaked their bodies and failed to fully envelop them.
Even so, the sudden ignition startled everyone in the room.
The alternate Mike had never seen such a scene and instinctively began rolling on the ground, shrieking, "F-Fire! It's burning me! Help!"
Within seconds, the flames vanished. The Mike who'd been pinned under Thalia's foot went limp as if all aggression had been drained from him.
As for the alternate Mike, he was still slapping at himself and shouting. But he looked more like his usual self now compared to his berserk, knife-wielding state.
That was when Velquin explained, "They were controlled by Vlad's malice. I just burned the remnants of that malice away with phoenix flames."
The alternate Mike had just started to recover from the terror of being burned by fire when the ancient porcelain doll suddenly talked. It hit him like a joke, as if the metaphysical world he'd doubted for over 20 years had just entered his life.
His eyes rolled back, and he passed out cold.
Everyone at the door turned their heads to look at him. Then, they calmly withdrew their gazes to focus on the porcelain doll hosting Velquin's divine soul.
Everyone nodded and cast one last glance at the unconscious Mike. Elliot thought for a second and handed Velquin to Thalia before bending down to pick him up with some effort.
Once inside, he laid Mike on the couch, while Thalia placed the porcelain doll Velquin on the coffee table.
"Go ahead." The group gathered around and fixed their eyes on Velquin.
By now, Thalia had a strong hunch that Velquin had been hiding something from them. After all, he'd never mentioned anything about Vlad's malice existing in the alternate world before coming over.
Velquin hadn't planned to reveal anything yet, but since they'd stumbled upon it, there was no use keeping secrets anymore.
"When the original world split into two parallel dimensions, Vlad split himself as well. One half remained in the original world, while the other followed the Alternate Divine Power and took root here."
