"Shannon, what's wrong?"
Before Lexie could finish her sentence, the scene before them blurred. In the blink of an eye, the entire group was pulled into a familiar domain.
Just as they were processing the abrupt shift, a sharp, metallic smell of blood reached their noses.
That shouldn't be possible; there should never be blood in Shannon's domain.
Before anyone could react, Shannon's figure flashed. In the next instant, she'd appeared miles away and stood on a grassy patch. Her whole body had gone stiff as if her blood flowed backward.
A sudden tug from her domain that came with the sharp pain and dread in her heart instinctively made her pull everyone into the domain, but she hadn't expected the scene before her eyes.
Before her, two figures lay motionless.
Bloodied from head to toe, Thalia had taken on her demon form, but there was not a single tail behind her.
Beside her, Adam slept on completely untouched.
As the two lay still and unmoving, the red string that had once been tied to Thalia's wrist now bound the two together.
Shannon had tied the red string on Thalia, Velquin, and Elliot when they first entered the alternate world as a precaution.
It was crafted from her fox fur and fused with the tenth tail power. Connected to her domain, she could always pull them safely into her domain in moments of danger in the alternate world.
Shannon had never imagined Thalia would use it. It had clearly been a tough fight.
She slowly knelt down and carefully lifted Thalia into her arms. Her fingers trembled uncontrollably as her hand reached out.
Whether during those two years Thalia had stayed by her side as her mentor or the two years after being brought back from the alternate world, Shannon had never seen Thalia this wounded.
For the first time, everyone within Shannon's domain felt the crushing weight of her killing intent.
With a flick of her fingers, all malice in the domain, including that last trace embedded in Adam's dream, was annihilated.
The others finally caught up to what'd happened and looked down at the supine duo in shock. Their eyes reddened instantly.
"Shannon…"
Elliot rushed forward. Without a word, he began casting spells to stop the bleeding on Thalia's body, but his energy could do nothing to restore those severed tails.
Grief flickered in his eyes, but he poured every ounce of spiritual energy into her body.
Shannon watched Thalia's wound swiftly heal and gently laid the latter down. Once Elliot was done, she reached out again.
