"Thank you and… I'm sorry," Alicia said.
She was sorry for disappointing Adam. From then on, she would keep her impure thoughts buried deep within, never to see the light of day again.
Even if it were for the girls who experienced the same life as her, she vowed to suppress her admiration for Adam and never scheme to get close to him again.
Thalia and Adam didn't say anything more to Alicia. With a wave, the two simply left together, hand in hand.
On the way downstairs, Adam pulled out his phone and sent a message. When they got into the car, Thalia happened to glance over and noticed something interesting.
The bad love luck previously present on his face had now disappeared.
She raised an eyebrow, somewhat impressed. "Damn, I'm good."
She used to teach Shannon to use fists when words didn't work, but now, it seemed she also had the power of persuasion. Maybe Hector's success at the Mystic Regulatory Commission was genetic after all.
Thinking that, she puffed up with pride. If it weren't for the fact that they were in public, she might've flicked her tail just to show off.
Adam caught her smug little look and felt nothing but fondness. He didn't say a word about how he had just messaged Joey to transfer Alicia to some far-off branch office next week.
He simply nodded and agreed. "You're the best."
Hearing that, Thalia narrowed her eyes at him and shot back, "I'm not as great as you, driving young women crazy at your age."
Adam fell silent. He looked helpless and tired of explaining, so he could only soften his tone and surrender. "Thalia…"
She leaned in closer, voicing her question. "Am I no longer precious to you after coming back?"
He grabbed her hand and squeezed it slightly. "You still are."
She had always been.
Adam gently cupped her youthful face, eyes softening as he leaned in.
Thalia expected him to kiss her like he always did, but instead, he tilted his head and rested his forehead against hers.
His voice was low and rough, drenched in emotion as he whispered, "You don't have to change a single thing. Just stay with me by my side for as long as you can…"
Until the day he died.
The words hung unspoken, but the warmth of their shared touch said the rest.
She closed her eyes, and slowly, that youthful face of hers shifted back.
She didn't say much, just leaned in a little, gently brushing her forehead against his with a soft nuzzle. There was something warm, almost childlike, in the way she did it.
Then, barely above a whisper, she gave him the answer he had been waiting for. "I will."
