Ryan shrugged. “Custom-made, tailored to fit, of course, it’s expensive. Oh, and I’ve got the payment receipt, with the amount clearly listed. No way you’re getting out of this.”
Freya gritted her teeth and muttered a few curses under her breath.
If she’d known she’d run into two robbers in a row, she’d have stayed at the hotel waiting for Liam. Even if they ended up having a huge fight, it would’ve been better than losing hundreds of thousands outright.
Ryan went on, “What, Liam doesn’t give you money to spend? Just 200 thousand dollars, pocket change for you, right?”
Liam was indeed generous with her.
He gave her whatever she wanted, and even bought things she didn’t ask for.
“I don’t want to use his money.”
Ryan raised an eyebrow. “Because you’re about to divorce?”
“Partly,” Freya whispered. “I’ll pay you back with installments. Once I find a job, I’ll pay you back.”
In the afternoon, an unfamiliar number called.
After thinking for a moment, Freya picked up. It was Lily. “Freya, where are you? Liam’s gone wild. He’s almost dug the hotel up looking for you!”
“I… I just don’t want to see him right now, so I left.”
“Is the place you’re at safe?”
“I think it’s safe… just a bit pricey.”
“Doesn’t matter, as long as it’s safe. If you need money, I’ll get Zara to transfer it to you.”
“Not yet. I’ll let you know if I do.”
Lily sighed. “You should’ve seen Liam. He’s like a raging lion, terrifying.”
Freya paused slightly before saying, “We can’t go on like this. He’s just having a hard time accepting it at first. Once the baby’s born, he won’t have the time to chase after me.”
Lily asked, “He still seems really into you. I’ve been too afraid to ask, but why would he cheat when he loves you so much?”
“Don’t ask.”

“It’s about me, isn’t it?”
Freya made no response.

“Besides looking for you, Liam also shouted about finding Professor Cooper,” Lily asked. “The conflict between you two… Is it related to the night I was raped?”
Freya took a deep breath. “No, don’t overthink it.”
“Freya, is it because he misunderstood you having an affair with Professor Cooper, so he found a mistress to piss you off?”
“It’s nothing, Lily. Don’t jump to conclusions.”
Even though Freya kept denying it, Lily wasn’t dumb. She’d always seen how much Liam loved Freya.
Earlier, she saw Liam shouting in the hotel that he wanted to find Thomas to clear things up.
The only thing connecting these two events is that one night.
Lily pieced together all the information and figured out the truth. “You kept my secret for me, so you couldn’t explain why you went to the hotel with Professor Cooper that night, nor could you say that I was there too.
“So Liam has been misunderstanding; he couldn’t take it, so he also found another woman…”
Freya suddenly felt powerless. “Lily…”
Lily suddenly said, “I’m going to find Liam right now. I’ll tell him the truth. I can’t let him keep misunderstanding you!”
Over the phone, Zara’s anxious voice suddenly cut in. “This is bad, Lily! Some photos are spreading online. Looks like Freya from her student days… going into a hotel with some old professor…”
“What…” Lily stammered.
“I don’t know who did it. The forums are all flooded, and it’s trending online, clearly bought up! And now everyone’s saying…”
“Saying what?” Lily urged.
“Saying…” Zara paused, “that Freya slept with an older professor at the school to get a recommendation for grad school…”
Lily roared, “Who did it?! Find out now!”
Freya chuckled coldly. “I know who did it.”
