The next day, Freya went to the 64th–floor HR department at the agreed time. Claire was already waiting for her. “You’re here, Mrs. Grant.”
Freya nodded. “Nice to meet you. I’m here to complete onboarding.”
“Good, follow me.” Claire led her to get her employee card and uniform. But when it was time to sign the employment contract, Freya saw two familiar faces.
One was the male candidate who graduated from an Ivy League university during the interview. And the other was a hot girl in a miniskirt.
Claire said, “They’re also starting today. You probably met during the interviews? Let me formally introduce you.
“This is Charles Rogers; he’ll be the Deputy Manager of the Technical Department. This is Sophia Davis; she’ll be Mr. Reed’s personal assistant.”
‘From hotel manager candidate to personal assistant?‘ Freya thought. ‘Personal assistant–does that include sex? She clearty has someone backing her since the interview.
Freya sized up Sophia. She was short but full of energy. Today’s outfit was again a crop top and miniskirt. Her skin had 4 deliberate tan–a sun–kissed hottie. ‘So this is Ryan’s type?‘ Freya mused.
While Freya was looking her over, Sophia was doing the same. Finally, Sophia waved at her. “Hi there, my past loser”
Freya was speechless. She thought, ‘Sure enough–people who share a roof are cut from the same cloth. They both have such sharp tongues.
‘But then again, she’s got such a lofty status now–nothing like someone like me, who’s just here trying to land a job. I can’t afford to offend her.’
So Freya smiled and returned the greeting. “Glad to meet you, Mr. Rogers. I look forward to working with you and learning from you.”
Charles nodded. “Of course.”
“We met during the interview,” Freya said.
“I remember. I thought you’d be my biggest competitor. Didn’t expect we’d become colleagues.”
“I’m glad to be your colleague, Mr. Reed hiring both of us shows he values talent.”
Charles snorted. “Well, that’s hard to say.”
Freya couldn’t hold back a smile. “Everyone has their own desires. It’s normal.”
Charles and Freya chatted happily, completely ignoring Sophia. Freya didn’t want to offend anyone, but she wasn’t a pushover either. She knew how to deliver a sweet yet cutting remark.
After signing the contract, Claire said, “I’ll take you to the guest services department now. You need to familiarize yourself with the hotel’s layout and your future responsibilities.”
“Excuse me, how should I address you?” Freya asked.
“Most of us call each other by our first names there. Just call me Claire. And try to fit in as soon as possible. It’ll make

communication among colleagues easier,” Claire replied.
Freya nodded. “Okay.”
Claire gave her a tour of the entire hotel. Her tone was gentle, her explanations detailed, and her voice was pleasant to listen
Freya was listening intently when they heard a guest, Herminia Brandt, losing her temper in a room not far ahead.
Herminia snapped, “I booked a business suite too! Why do all the other suites have decorative items on the bed, but mine doesn’t?”
A staff member could only apologize. “I’m so sorry, Ms. Brandt. I’ll contact housekeeping immediately to get this sorted for you.”
Herminia was still unsatisfied. “Is it just about adding the decorations? This is about you guys not valuing me at all!
“I’m a regular guest here; I stay at your hotel for three or four months every year. Is this how you brush me off?” “I’m truly sorry. The housekeeper might have forgotten to report it after cleaning. How about we compensate you with a week’s free stay? Would that be okay?”
“No. Get your manager here. I need an explanation today, or I’m checking out right now.”
Claire glanced at Freya. Freya figured that she was the newly appointed manager. She didn’t expect that on her first day at work, she’d have to deal with a troublesome dispute right away.
