Liam let out a laugh, shaking his head. “Man, you two are something else. My wife and my best friend, always ready to throw down the second you’re in the same room. What’s up with that?”

Freya gave a half-hearted shrug. “Beats me. Maybe he’s just salty.”

Liam slid an arm around her waist, his tone playful but soft. “Quit it, babe. You know Ryan’s got his heart set

on someone.”

Freya smirked. “Yeah, someone else’s missus.”

Liam’s face got a bit wistful. “True, but she’s about to be single. Ryan’s been holding out forever. Here’s hoping it works out.”

Freya could care less about Ryan’s romantic drama. Just another soap opera plotline.

She switched tracks, eyeing Liam. “That the office blowing up your phone? You gotta bounce again?”

Liam looked guilty as hell. “Yeah, hon, it’s a fire drill. Gotta be there in person. Probably pulling an all-nighter. Hit the hay, okay? Don’t wait up.”

Freya swallowed a scoff. ‘All-nighter? Yeah, right. More like a late-night date with your sidepiece.

She nodded, keeping it chill. “Sure thing. I’m zonked anyway. Go handle it.”

As she turned toward the bedroom, Liam yanked her back into his arms, tilting her chin for a kiss. She dodged quick, his lips grazing her jaw instead.

Liam pulled back, frowning. “What’s that about? Too shy to smooch your man goodbye?”

Freya wiggled free. “Didn’t you say it’s urgent? Get your ass moving.”

Liam chuckled under his breath. “What, feeling awkward ’cause Ryan’s here? Relax, he’s been my ride-or-die for twenty years. He’s practically family.”

“Just go already,” Freya said, shooing him off.

His phone buzzed again-probably her, Freya thought, rolling her eyes.

Liam grinned, ruffling her hair. “Alright, I’m out. Be good, babe. Might rain tonight, so lock the windows before bed. I’ll be back by breakfast.”

And just like that, Liam was outta there.

The house went dead quiet, just Freya and Ryan left. She shot him a look. “Your buddy’s gone. You still loitering?”

Ryan leaned back, arms crossed, smirking like a cat with a canary. “He just bails like that? Not worried about us, you know, alone together? Things could get… interesting.”

Freya snorted. “Oh, please. Aren’t you mooning over some married gal? You’re not that thirsty, are you?”

Ryan’s grin got wider. “Hey, never say never.”

She raised an eyebrow. “Got plans tonight, hotshot?”

“Nada. You?”

“Since you’re free, how about we crank out that power of attorney and divorce papers?”

Ryan nodded, all business now. “Great minds think alike.”

Freya wasn’t a lawyer, but she’d dug up some templates online for a power of attorney and divorce agreement.

She spread them out for Ryan. “What’s the vibe?”

He scanned them and shook his head. “These are trash. Not even close to legit.”

She smirked, leaning in. “Alright, Mr. Big-Time Lawyer, show me what you got.”

Ryan didn’t flinch. He hopped on her laptop and banged out a sharp, professional power of attorney in no time. “Print this, get him to sign. Two copies—one for you, one for me.”

Freya nodded, getting serious. “Got it. I’ll figure out how to make him sign ASAP.”

“And the divorce papers,” Ryan went on. “No kids, so we dodge custody drama. The biggie’s splitting the

assets.”
