Chapter 109
Meanwhile, one of Hugh’s men was waiting backstage and had just found Alicia’s piece, ready to destroy it. when out of the blue, he got another message from Tiffany.
She told him to pull Alicia’s piece out, and after hers was up, to wait for two more schoolmates works to go by, then send Alicia’s up to the display.
After getting the message, he quickly put Alicia’s piece back into the stack. In his mind, he figured Tiffany must’ve talked things over with Hugh before sending those instructions–so this had to be the official
decision.
The guy thought Hugh was probably too busy to message him and had Tiffany reach out instead.
So he gripped Alicia’s work tightly, just waiting for the perfect opportunity to bring it out.
Tiffany stopped at the lounge door and knocked softly. Edward’s voice, rough with age, called out from inside.
“Come in.”
Today, Tiffany was dressed in a fuzzy turtleneck sweater, topped with a chic tweed jacket. Below, she wore a mini skirt trimmed with fluffy fur, and her boots were fur–lined as well.
She looked soft and cuddly, and with her clean, natural makeup, she appeared sweet and well–mannered.
She walked over with a gentle smile, her voice gentle and polite. “Mr. West, did you want to see me? I’m Tiffany Lawrence.”
Edward looked up at her, searching for any trace of the girl he used to know, but there was nothing there.
That girl was always a little troublemaker, constantly pulling pranks–nobody would’ve ever called her sweet or well–behaved.
Her eyes were big and clear, like pools of water. Whenever she looked at him with those eyes, his heart would melt, and he’d say yes to anything she asked.
And when she smiled, her big eyes would curve into crescents, making her look absolutely adorable.
Most of all, whenever she grinned, she flashed her little white teeth–he could still remember Charles joking that she didn’t act like a proper girl at all, her smile way too bold.
However, the girl standing in front of him didn’t have those big, sparkling eyes–her smile never showed her teeth, and while her gaze was clever, it just didn’t have that innocence he remembered.
‘No way this is Alicia, Edward thought to himself.
Edward gave a faint, disappointed smile and asked, “You’re Tiffany Lawrence?”
“Yes, Mr. West,” Tiffany replied, nodding and keeping her smile gentle.

But inside. Tillany couldn’t help but wonder, What’s with Mr. West Calls me in, stares forever, then asks my name again? What exactly is he up to? Isn’t he supposed to be showering me with praise or at least admiring my artistic skills?”
Even though she was puzzled, she kept her cool and answered Edward’s questions.
Edward asked. “Mind if I ask you a few questions?”
Please go ahead,” Tiffany said confidently.
He’s probably gonna ask about my artistic skills, Tiffany thought. ‘Good thing I’ve memorized everything my private tutor drilled into me–1 can totally ace this.‘
“Have a seat,” Edward said, gesturing toward the chair.
Tiffany sat down across from him, her smile as enigmatic as the Mona Lisa’s.
Edward was silent for a few seconds before finally asking, “Are these your own works?”
Tiffany’s heart tightened with anxiety. ‘Wait a second, did that disastrous Alicia already run her mouth to Mr. West?‘
She bit down on her lip, steadying herself before answering, “Of course. I’ve posted these online before—I’m the Sweetheart Queen everyone’s talking about. If you don’t believe me, I can pull up my profile and all the account details for you…”
She started to reach for her phone as she spoke.
But Edward lifted a hand, signaling her not to rush. With a small smile, he said, “I’m not questioning you. It’s just, a lot of the techniques you used here are pretty uncommon nowadays. Most folks don’t bother with them anymore–only the old–timers really use these methods.”
Tiffany chuckled softly. “I never took any art classes at school–my family just hired me a private tutor, an elderly gentleman.”
Edward nodded and pressed, “So all these techniques came from him? You didn’t learn from anyone else?”
Tiffany couldn’t figure out what Edward was driving at and felt a little uncertain. Thinking it over, she answered, “Not all of it–some tricks I just picked up on my own.”
“You figured that out by yourself?” Edward looked genuinely surprised.
Truth was, Tiffany barely understood anything about art. She’d just memorized a few lines to bluff her way through today.
Hugh always told her not to waste time learning art–that was Alicia’s job. As long as Tiffany knew a bit about everything else, he’d make sure she got credited no matter what. All she had to do was keep up the genius–girl act; that was enough.
Seeing the look on Edward’s face, Tiffany felt even less confident. ‘Wait… are there techniques in Alicia’s pieces that people just can’t pick up on their own?‘ she wondered uneasily.

She let out an awkward chuckle and said. “Sometimes I talk about it with other people, too.”

Edward suddenly got all worked up. “Who else have you talked about this with? Any other young ladies around your age?”
Tiffany blinked, not expecting that. Wait, what is Mr. West on about now?‘
She chuckled and replied, “No, not really. Most of my classmates aren’t skilled enough to talk art with me, so I rarely get the chance to discuss it with them.”
Edward nodded with disappointment in his eyes, giving Tiffany a brief smile. “Alright, thank you, Tiffany. That’s all for now–you’re dismissed.”
Without another word, he stood up and walked out of the lounge.
Tiffany frowned, feeling even more confused than before. ‘Mr. West just hit me with those bizarre questions -so do I actually stand a chance of becoming his apprentice or not? What’s going through his mind anyway?”
Too nervous to ask, she kept her mouth shut.
With no other option, Tiffany tagged along as Edward made his way to the lecture hall.
Edward took his seat again and signaled for the show to go on.
Bruce asked, “Should we display more of Tiffany Lawrence’s pieces?”
Edward paused for a few seconds, then said, “No, skip it. Put the next student’s work up.”
Bruce nodded and told the staff to take Tiffany’s pieces down, then put up the next student’s work.
After Tiffany’s painting went up, the next two students took their turn, but honestly, nobody in the room could muster the interest for them. Everyone was thinking, ‘Seriously, what kind of mess is this supposed to be?‘ Judging by their faces, they were all just looking down their noses at it.
Even the teachers couldn’t help but feel the same way, silently sizing up those pieces with the same disbelief.
When that raw, unframed sheet finally hit the display, everyone in the room just lost it with repeated gasps and whispers. The whole crowd was totally mesmerized.
“Whoa, who drew this? No way–this looks absolutely amazing!” someone exclaimed.
Another one said, “Dude, I picked the perfect day to show up. Hell, that’s two legendary works I’ve laid eyes on today!”
Alicia stared in disbelief as her painting was brought out for display. ‘Wait, Tiffany actually left my painting up? Never thought she’d let that happen–what a surprise!‘ she thought.
Just as Alicia was still caught off guard, someone blurted out, “Wait, why does this painting look so much like Sweetheart Queen’s? The brushwork, the vibe, even those tiny habit details–it’s basically a copy!”
