Anyway, Alicia filled up the whole diary with what looked like normal notes.

But if someone put all those entries together, they could see exactly what the Lawrence family was planning. clearer than any drawing she could make.

This diary was her lifeline, the one thing she needed to save herself. And she left it behind for Charles.

From what she knew about Hugh, if he ever got his hands on her, he’d check everything she had. That tracker she bought would be gone in a second.

But she still had to set up the tracker. Hugh was so paranoid that if she didn’t do something sneaky, he’d get suspicious and might not keep her at the Lawrence residence.

All the clues she left for Charles pointed straight to the Lawrence residence. If she wasn’t actually there, Charles might never find her.

So she decided it was better to plant the tracker on purpose and let Hugh find it. That way, he’d feel like he had her completely under control and would be confident enough to keep her at the Lawrence residence.

Sure, she could’ve hidden two trackers or even a communication device linked to Hank’s phone. But relying completely on Hank was just too risky.

Her trust in him was limited. If Hank ever betrayed her, she’d be right back living out the same tragedy she suffered before.

Perhaps the Lawrence family already had Hank in their sights.

Either way, she still couldn’t fully trust Hank.

In her previous life, Charles had been incredibly supportive of Tiffany, going to great lengths to help her. In this life, he was doing the same. It was clear that Charles always felt a deep sense of obligation and was willing to do anything for her.

If anything happened to her and Charles still believed he owed her, he’d step in without hesitation. Given his capabilities, he was her best chance. Trusting him made perfect sense.

That was why she deliberately wrote that diary to leave a trail for Charles to follow.

Alicia thought, I know Mr. Yates might be upset if he finds out I’m not really the one who saved him, but I’ve got bigger problems right now. If I can’t get through this, who knows if there’ll even be a future?

Besides, in my previous life, Mr. Yates helped Tiffany and blocked off any way for me to escape. So this time, letting him save me feels like he is making amends for the past.

Alicia made the diary look old and worn on purpose. Then she left it out on the desk.

When she finally finished, she realized it was almost morning.

Back at the Lawrence residence, Maria, Tiffany, and Aaron had just gotten home.

Tiffany told Hugh everything that happened at Edward’s place, holding nothing back.

As expected. Hugh gave Aaron a good scolding.

I thought after all this time with me, you’d be better at handling things than your mom and Tiffany, Hugh snapped. But you almost blew it, and now Tiffany has to clean the mess for you. You’re just plain stupid.”

Aaron jumped in. I was careless. Honestly, Mr. West’s reaction when he saw our gifts really threw me. I just thought he was all about money.

That’s enough,Hugh snapped. You messed up. Stop making excuses. You should really learn from Tiffany. It’s pretty embarrassing that you’re even half as sharp as she is.

Understood, Dad,Aaron muttered.

Hugh waved him off. Alright, go ahead with your thing. I need to talk to Tiffany.

Aaron headed for the door, but before he left the study, he glanced at Tiffany. She was his beloved sister, the one he always doted on.

younger

He couldn’t get over why she brought up his nearmishap with Edward in front of Hugh, especially when he knew it was just a slipup.

He couldn’t shake the feeling that she did it on purpose, trying to make Hugh think she was sharper than him.

But he couldn’t quite believe it. Tiffany had always seemed so innocent and sweet. She wouldn’t do something

like that.

He shook his head, pushed those thoughts aside, and left.

Once Aaron was gone, Hugh turned to Tiffany. So Mr. West wants you and Alicia to paint something else for him?

Yeah.Tiffany nodded. I couldn’t really say no at the time, so I just agreed and figured I’d talk it over with you when I got back.

Hugh gave her a cold, piercing look. “It seems like we’re backed into a corner now.

Tiffany stayed silent, just watching him.

Hugh gritted his teeth. I really hoped we wouldn’t have to go that far, unless we had no other choice. But now, it looks like we’re out of options.

Dad, are you planning to force Alicia back?Tiffany asked, her voice trembling a bit.

Hugh glanced at Tiffany, nodding approvingly. Tiffany has a sharper mind than any of my boys, he thought

Tiffany’s brow furrowed, worry creasing her face. Dad, are you sure this is okay? If someone notices Alicia’s missing, won’t the police start poking around?

Hugh brushed off her worry, his voice cold. Alicia doesn’t have anyone else, just us. Nobody is going to care what happens to her.

Tiffany nodded and then threw in a sweet compliment. Dad, you really are the best.

Hugh soaked up the praise, giving her a selfsatisfied smile. Alright, don’t sweat it. I’ve had the PR team handle it online. Just go along with them and let them handle everything.

With that, Hugh waved her off, ending the conversation.

Tiffany slipped out of the study, making sure to close the door behind her.

Hugh pulled out his phone and made a call.

The next day, Alicia woke up and made breakfast like she always did, packing some for Sienna.

On her way out, she sensed someone following her, but they didn’t do anything.

She just pretended not to notice.

After a full day of classes, Alicia got on the subway to head home, same as always.

As soon as she got on the train, she could feel a few people tagging along, sticking close and surrounding her. But she just acted like nothing was wrong.

As her stop approached, she saw those people suddenly stand up. Alicia quickly texted Charles on WhatsApp: [Are you coming over to paint today? I’ll be at home waiting for you.]

She had waited until the very last second to send the message. After all, she could never be sure exactly when Hugh’s people might make their move.

She didn’t even get a chance to see Charles’s reply before a faint, sweet scent drifted to her nose. Alicia’s head went light and fuzzy, and the next thing she knew, her whole body felt limp and powerless.

The people surrounding Alicia quickly propped her up and halfcarried her off the subway.

When Alicia came to, she was plunged into darkness. Just one breath in, and she knew exactly where she was. It was the same pitchblack cellar, a place where light never reached.

The air was thick with mold and decay.

The stench was so familiar that it triggered waves of terror and disgust, making her want to vomit.

But as a wave of nausea hit, the lights suddenly snapped on.

After a moment, Alicia slowly opened her eyes, her head heavy and her mind groggy. That was when she realized she was strapped to an old wooden cot, her hands and feet tightly bound with cold iron chains.

Tiffany was standing there with a maid obediently by her side.

Even with a medical mask on, Tiffany still held her nose, clearly put off by the stench.

When Alicia finally opened her eyes, Tiffany smiled sweetly from behind her mask. You finally came to, Alicia.

Alicia shot her a glare, her voice cold as ice. Did you have me kidnapped? What do you want?

Of course, deep down, Alicia already knew the answer, but she needed to hear it from Tiffany herself.

Tiffany raised her hand, signaling the maid to put down the stuff. Then she waved the maid out of the room.

Only then did Tiffany, looming over Alicia, give her a cold command. Since you’re awake, get to drawing. We don’t have much time left.”

Tiffany kicked the paintbrushes and sketchpad the maid had just set down, sending them sliding right up to Alicia’s feet.
