Though Tiffany had no real idea what the title entailed, it sounded important enough to warrant a calculated shift in her demeanor She offered Zane a more genuine smile and finally shook his hand. “It’s a pleasure to
meet you
Zane beamed. Tve followed all your work, Miss Lawrence. Every piece is incredible-so technically skilled and deeply meaningful. The whole commission is impressed.”
Tiffany offered a faint, polite smile. The truth was, she still had no idea what his job actually involved, and her interest in sustaining the conversation was waning.
Liora, observing her brothers’ transparent efforts, rolled her eyes inwardly. ‘What woman wants to be cornered by men like that?’
She glided over, her voice softening with a note of eager admiration. “Miss Lawrence, this is breathtaking. Is this gown a limited-edition from LV’s last couture collection? I’ve only ever seen it in the editorial spreads.”
Tiffany’s expression remained perfectly composed. She honestly didn’t know. Her entire wardrobe was curated by Maria, whose obsession with perception and status guaranteed that every item was exclusive, current, and designed to command attention. If Liora identified it as a runway piece, Tiffany saw no reason to disagree.
“My mother has impeccable taste,” Tiffany replied, her smile gracious. “She believes every piece should tell a
story.”
Liora’s grin widened. “And she’s absolutely right. A woman should be surrounded by luxury…”
The two of them fell into an easy, immediate rapport.
Watching his three children, Edward felt a sharp, hot surge of exasperation.
Completely fed up, he stood and strode toward the door, hoping to see if Alicia had arrived.
Just then, Alicia was stepping out of the car at the hotel’s entrance.
She waved to Charles, who remained in the back seat. “Thank you for the ride, Mr. Yates. I’ll go on ahead.”
“You’re welcome,” Charles said. “Good luck.”
With a nod, Alicia turned toward the hotel.
Charles watched her until she disappeared inside before speaking to Kevin. “The police station now.”
“You got it,” Kevin replied, starting the engine. He glanced at his boss in the rearview mirror, curiosity getting the better of him. “If you don’t mind my asking, what’s the business there?”
A faint smirk touched Charles’s lips. “Just helping her move things along.”
As Charles’s assistant, Kevin was well-versed in everything concerning Alicia; he was usually the one tasked

with handling those matters
But Kevin had always kept an eye on her anyway she was a good kid, and he’d made a point to stay in the loop on what was going on with her
So when Charles said ‘push things along, Kevin understood the implication immediately.
A grin spread across his face. “I’ll get us there in record time.”
Charles’s smile widened-no more words needed.
The car lurched forward, fast as an arrow, and vanished down the road in a blur. *****
As Alicia approached the hotel’s main doors, she could hear a group of Tiffany’s fans chattering excitedly nearby.
“Where’s Alicia? She’s probably too scared to show up, huh?” one of the girls snarked.
CA
“I bet she’s totally chickening out. What does she even think she’s doing, trying to steal Tiffany’s place? She’s got some nerve. She’s not much to look at but sure dreams big,” another sneered.
“Has anyone actually seen her? Is she really that plain?” a third voice inquired.
“Never seen her. But any girl who’s too insecure to post photos must be seriously unattractive. If she had anything going for her, she’d be flooding social media with selfies,” came the dismissive response.
Alicia, now standing directly behind the group, cleared her throat gently. “Are you all unaware of how beauty filters work these days? Posting selfies doesn’t prove anything about actual appearance. Besides, this is an art competition between Alicia and Tiffany, not a beauty pageant.”
“Who even are you? Talking crap already? Are you trying to say Tiffany’s not as good as Alicia?” a guy shot back, jumping in to defend Tiffany as soon as he realized the girl behind him was hinting Tiffany’s online pics were all filtered.
But when he turned to face the speaker, his words died in his throat. His gaze locked onto a pair of eyes so clear-so bright, it was like someone had scooped every star out of the night sky and set them there.
Staring felt almost rude, they were that unclouded, that pure.
He snapped his eyes away fast, taking a step back like he’d accidentally stumbled on something too precious to gawk at. When he dared to look again, he found himself staring at a girl whose beauty was striking- expressive eyes, well-defined brows, and lips that carried a natural rosy hue.
Even in a casual tracksuit, her hair pulled up in a careless high ponytail and not a drop of makeup on her face, she had this raw, effortless beauty about her-stunning in how she looked, and even more so in how she
carried herself.
There was a compelling harmony in her contrasts-a woman’s elegant poise blended seamlessly with a girl’s open, guileless expression. The combination was uniquely arresting.
He completely blanked out, unable to get the rest of his words out.

Alicia offered a faint, amused smile. “So, am I wrong?”
The guy found himself nodding without thinking. “No, you’re right.”
Alicia nodded, smirking. “Good, you catch on quick.”
With that, she flashed a playful smile and asked, “Would you mind making some space?”

“Oh, sure,” the guy blurted out, hurriedly shuffled aside and pulled his friend with him to clear the entrance.
Just as Alicia was about to step forward, the guy suddenly gathered all his courage and blurted out, “Hey, mind if I get your number?”
Alicia turned back with a playful smirk. “Nope.”
“Why not?” the guy muttered subconsciously, clearly deflated.
Alicia shot him a look, dead serious but with a hint of sass. “Because you literally called me ugly. I don’t give my number to people who insult me.”
“I didn’t…” he began to protest.
Alicia cocked an eyebrow, smirking. “You literally said any girl who’s too insecure to post photos must be seriously unattractive. If she had anything going for her, she’d be flooding social media with selfies. Well, guess what? I’m that girl who never posts pictures.”
The guy gaped at Alicia, stunned. “You… you’re Alicia?”
Alicia just gave a playful chuckle, spun around, and headed inside without another word.
The guy remained rooted to the spot, staring blankly at the space where the captivating figure had vanished.
A few girls behind him exchanged pointed glances, their expressions sharp with jealousy. “So what if she’s pretty?” one called out toward the closed doors, her voice dripping with disdain. “This is a painting competition, not a beauty pageant. She could never match Tiffany’s talent and gift.”
Overhearing it, Alicia couldn’t help but smirk to herself. ‘Seriously, what a bunch of two-faced trolls, she thought.
It was her first time at the Crown Hotel, and the scale of the place was overwhelming-endless corridors and banquet halls stretched in every direction. She paused, completely turned around, with no idea where she was supposed to go.
Meanwhile, inside the Crystal Room, cameras were already rolling, every lens intently fixed on Tiffany.
A major influencer with millions of followers had taken Tiffany’s commission and came over to livestream the whole thing. She’d been hyping up the show on Twitter and all her socials for days, promising it was going to be a can’t-miss broadcast, and her fans were totally fired up-loads of them bragged about being ready with gifts, just waiting for the stream to kick off.
Since Tiffany had paid her a fat fee, the influencer, Leafie, cranked up the beauty filters to the max to make

Fans who couldn’t get tickets to see the Sweetheart Queen in person were glued to their screens waiting for the livestream, and once it started, tens of thousands poured in-Tiffany’s devotees mixed with the influencer’s own, all making the chat blow up.
