Gloria looked a bit disappointed, but soon her smile returned. “Honestly, you don’t have to answer right now. I was just bringing it up casually. Why don’t you think about it a little more?”

Alicia smiled, “I’ve already made up my mind…”

Gloria, worried Alicia would reject her again, cut her off in a hurry. “Alicia, Elliot missed class today–could you lend him your notes?”

Gloria thought to herself, ‘Well, if Alicia won’t be my apprentice, then maybe she could be my daughter–in- law. Either way, I’ll still get to hand down everything I know to her.’

Alicia blinked in surprise at Gloria. “Gloria, honestly, why not just let Elliot take a look at your lesson plan? That’s way more useful than my notes.”

Gloria replied, “That’s not the same at all. And I believe students helping each other out could help them learn better, Alicia.”

Alicia was a bit stunned before clearing her throat lightly. “Alright.”

She pulled out her notes and handed them to Gloria. “Go ahead and give these to him.”

Gloria took them with a cheerful grin. “Coming from Elliot’s mom, thanks a bunch, Alicia.”

Alicia just gave an awkward smile. “Alright, Mrs. Clifford, I’ll head out now–got another class to get to.”

“Sure thing,” Gloria said, nodding with a smile.

Alicia quickly packed up and left. She couldn’t shake the feeling that Gloria was a sly old fox, and she was about to walk right into one of her carefully laid traps.

After leaving the classroom, Elliot actually tracked down someone who knew their way around computers and asked them to find out who posted the thread accusing Tiffany of hiring trolls to slander Alicia.

Staring at the results, Elliot muttered to himself, “Wait… could it really have been Tiffany?”

He sat there, puzzled for a while, then shook his head and started convincing himself, ignoring all the evidence online. ‘No way, that couldn’t be Tiffany. She’s always so gentle and caring, especially towards Alicia.

Just the other day, she was worried Alicia might break something in the music room and even offered to pay for it herself if anything happened.

Just as Elliot finished convincing himself, Gloria walked into the music room.

“What was it?” Gloria pressed.

Elliot, obviously bothered, said, “Mom, I’m an adult now–do you really have to interrogate me about every little thing?”

Gloria let out a sigh, giving up any further questions. She handed Elliot Alicia’s notebook. “Here, these are Alicia’s notes. Take a look, if you want.”

Elliot, feeling even more irritated, shoved the notebook right off the desk and onto the floor. “Mom, what is this about? I missed class, big deal. Do I really need notes for just one lesson?

“I already learn way more from you than what’s taught in class. Why do I need someone else’s notes?

“Honestly, you’re making it way too obvious you’re scheming. Like I said, I’m not interested in Alicia—just stop trying to play matchmaker!”

Gloria bent down and picked up the notebook. “I’m only thinking about what’s best for you, you stubborn kid. Don’t come crying to me if you end up regretting missing out.”

Gloria nodded. “Fine, whatever. I’ll leave the notebook right here–read it, don’t read it, suit yourself. Tomorrow, I’ll return it to her myself.”

Elliot just rolled his eyes at the notebook, totally dismissing it with a snort. ‘Like I’d bother with that, he thought.

Gloria saw how he acted and said, “Trust me, this is more than some random notes. If you actually take a look, it could seriously level up your skills–who knows, it might be the kind of thing you’ll thank me for years down the road.”

With that, Gloria didn’t spare Elliot another glance. She picked up her pen, notebook, and those few half- finished pages, moved over to the harp, and started playing a little, jotting down a few notes here and there whenever inspiration struck.

Elliot scoffed. ‘Like a dumb notebook’s gonna change my life?

‘Yeah, right. Who believes that junk?

‘Let’s see what kind of magic is supposed to be inside that made Mom lose her mind.‘

He grabbed the notebook and started flipping through it.

The moment he flipped it open, what caught his eye first was the elegant, almost calligraphic handwriting.

He had to admit–even he was impressed. Alicia’s handwriting was beautiful: small, neat, and so precise that every letter looked like it was printed.

Curious, he flipped through several more pages, wondering if maybe she’d only put effort into the first couple. But what really stunned him was that the entire notebook, packed almost to the very end, was written with the same flawless neatness on every single page.

Elliot flipped back to the very first page and finally started actually reading the notes.

Just a couple of pages in, and he was floored. He couldn’t help but think, ‘Is this really just a notebook?‘

Honestly, it was way better than Gloria’s lesson plans. Alicia had recorded everything from class, but she’d also sprinkled in her own thoughts and even referenced a bunch of other sources she’d found on her own.

The whole thing was ridiculously detailed–these weren’t just class notes, they were on a whole other level.

Elliot lost himself in the notebook, flipping through page after page with intense focus. He couldn’t help jotting down his own ideas and doodles as he went, and sometimes he’d even pick up an instrument nearby to try out a melody, just to see how it played out.

Gloria wrapped up her work and glanced over at Elliot. To her surprise, he was actually poring over Alicia’s notes with real focus. She smiled to herself, decided not to interrupt him, and headed off to the cafeteria to grab lunch.
