When he arrived at the empty space in front of the warehouse, there was no one there except for the man with the crippled leg.
"Here so early?"
The crippled man was taken aback.
Chen Fan smiled in response.
The former nodded and didn't say more.
Chen Fan picked up his bow and arrow, walked to the position where he stood in the morning, and continued practicing.
At first, he was able to draw the bow fully, but later it became extremely strenuous. When he used all his strength and still couldn't do it, he reluctantly put down the bow and arrow to rest for a while.
The crippled man noticed, just like in the morning, came over to massage his right arm.
"Uncle Zhang..." Chen Fan looked at him, feeling very embarrassed. Honestly, without Uncle Zhang's help to massage and stimulate his blood flow in the morning, his progress in Basic Archery wouldn't be so fast.
He wanted to say thank you but felt it would be too flippant.
The crippled man shook his head slightly and said, "It's nothing. I can tell that you're dedicated."
Chen Fan forced a smile. Given that it involves his life and property, how could he not be?
After the massage was done, the crippled man patted his shoulder and walked limping to the few young men who had recently arrived, shouting loudly.
"I should continue as well."
Chen Fan talked to himself, stood up from the ground, and continued practicing archery.
As time passed by, around three or four o'clock, a commotion could be heard coming from the direction of the entrance of the village.
Chen Fan's face showed a hint of suspicion as he looked into the distance.
"It's the Hunting Team returning!"
A young man practicing spear technique shouted excitedly.
"That's right, it seems like they're bringing back some prey!"
"Prey!"
The others instinctively licked their lips. This meant that every household would receive some, and tonight they'd have meat to eat!
Seeing this, the crippled man sighed and waved his hand, saying, "If you want to go, go ahead. Once you've received it, remember to come back immediately."
Though he said this, he knew clearly that by the time they queued up and received their meat, it would almost be dark.
"Yes!"
"Thank you, Uncle Zhang!"
The few dropped their weapons and dashed off.
"These little rascals."
The crippled man cursed from behind, suspecting they had been acting exhausted earlier.
"I see."
Chen Fan figured out the situation but wasn't as excited as they were.
Relying on others can be fallible, and relying on oneself can be unreliable too. Only by strengthening himself can he stop worrying about starvation.
Of course, his father's successful hunt was a great blessing.
"Aren't you going?"
The crippled man limped over and asked.
"Uncle Zhang, I don't think I need to go?"
Chen Fan stretched his right arm, smiled, and said, "What about you, why don't you go?"
The crippled man laughed self-deprecatingly, "People like me are just barely surviving. In other villages, I wouldn't be able to stay at all."
He paused, looking towards the direction where the youth had disappeared, "Going over there early might just annoy people. Waiting a few hours won't be too late."
Chen Fan was taken aback, then said softly, "If you go too late, you might not get good meat."
The crippled man looked at him annoyed, "You brat, always talking about what you shouldn't. If you bring this up again, I won't massage your arm next time."
Chen Fan chuckled.
He realized Uncle Zhang was quite an interesting person.
Another hour passed, and with a swift "whoosh" sound, the arrow hit the bullseye accurately.
At the same time, Chen Fan felt a warm flow through his body, alleviating his previous fatigue, especially in his right arm, which felt significantly better.
A few seconds later, the warm flow disappeared, making it seem as if it never existed.
