HIS DOE, HIS DAMNATION (An Erotic Billionaire Romance) novel Chapter 147

Meadow’s POV:

“Well?”

“Well, what?” I muttered absentmindedly, not looking up from my laptop screen. I’d just finished class for today and was trying to do some research for my homework, but Nova was doing a good job in distracting me.

“Do you like this one?” she asked. “It’s gonna look hot on you.”

I looked up at her, slowly scanning the sea–green silk dress she was holding up with a hanger. And then, pinching the bridge of my nose, I replied: “I already told you I’m not going to the opening, Nova.”

“And I already told you have to go,” she countered, tossing the dress aside and joining me on my bed. “Especially since you know Alaric’s going too.”

My heart clenched at the sound of his name.

It had been four whole weeks since I saw him… since I heard his voice, and it was killing me—I tried to deny it at first and pretend to be fine, but it wasn’t even up to a week before the hurt intensified.

God, I missed him so much. And I suppose it made me feel pathetic since he probably didn’t miss me.

I just wished it was possible for me to turn off my thoughts, because they were only filled with him. My husband. Or… ex–husband now? We never actually got a divorce and I knew it was only a matter

of time before he would serve me divorce papers.

“I don’t know that,” I murmured, looking away from the pretty dress and back to my laptop. “But if Alaric’s going to Clarissa’s opening, that won’t be something for me to get excited about, Nova. She’s his ex–girlfriend. And he’s… single now.” My throat tightened.

Clarissa had called me on the phone to plead with me to attend the opening of her boutique which she had pushed back to this weekend. And I had no plans of going. The last thing I wanted was to see my aunt flirting with Alaric at the party. I wouldn’t be able to do anything about it, and truthfully, it would be embarrassing considering the fact that I gave her a clear warning some time ago to stay away from my husband.

Nova’s face fell and she let out a huge sigh, throwing her arm around my back. “Oh, baby. Alaric is a lot of things–stupid, insane, definitely a fucking coward–but one thing he isn’t is disrespectful. You’re his wife. And trust me, I’ve seen the man. He’s fucking crazy about you.” She shoved out an angry breath. “Which is why I’m so confused as to how and why he couldn’t… sorry,” he muttered when she noticed the expression on my face. “He’s the worst.”

I didn’t respond to that.

After I told Nova about everything that had happened right from the night Alaric took me to the club, she went through a mix of emotions. She was upset at how Nolan handled everything else, but she understood and so did 1. Although, she was pissed at him for a while, until Nolan came to meet me at Nova’s apartment and apologized for speaking to me like that.

That was three weeks ago.

Since then, I had moved into my own apartment–and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t make the most of Alaric’s money when I was choosing one. Nova wanted me to stay with her, but I declined her offer.

She didn’t say it, but I knew she was thinking that this was only temporary.

But it wasn’t. I’d already made up my mind. And Alaric had too. I just wished…

No.

I couldn’t subject myself to that torture.

My phone rang just then, and my heart nearly jumped out of my chest as I reached for it. But it wasn’t who I thought it was going to be–and maybe it was time for me to stop thinking that he would call me.

It was Camilla. Mel’s daughter.
