Chapter 108
But tonight, this is me saying it back. Loud enough for the whole world.
“I love you now. I’ll love you tomorrow. And every version of forever we get.”
The screen went black.
I turned toward him.
“I love you, Liam.”
He exhaled like he’d been holding it in since the music started. “Emily… damn it. Are you trying to make a man cry?”
I smirked. “I would kill to see you cry.”
“Cruel.”
Then I pulled out a small box and handed it to him.
Tucked inside were two black bracelets.
His had a tiny E engraved. Mine, an L.
“For when we’re apart,” I whispered.
He stared at them like they were worth more than his entire empire.
“That’s one hell of a way to say ‘I love you,‘ Emily.”
He gently tucked a loose strand behind my ear. “Say it again.”
“I love you.”
He kissed me.
“I love you.”
His lips found my neck.
“You know,” he murmured, “you did send a picture earlier… Are the contents still available?”

I grinned. “If you’re lucky.”
“Oh, I’m about to be.”

He lifted me in one smooth motion, and before long, we’d gone from the theater to his room.
Later, wrapped up in each other, skin warm, limbs tangled, I pulled his hand into mine and snapped a picture.
Still choosing you. Always.
Then I posted it.
Liam’s phone buzzed on the nightstand. He groaned, reached for it, and frowned.
“Crap. Emergency call. Give me five minutes, baby. I’ll be right back.
I nodded. “Sure. Go take the call.”

When he left, I stayed in bed, scrolling through comments, still smiling like an idiot.
Then a message lit up on my screen. Kelvin had slid into my DMs.
Kelvin:
Glad you and Liam are strong again. Must be real love.
I mean… he’s giving up his inheritance for that.
My heart stopped.
What?
Me:
What are you talking about?
Typing…
Paused.
Kelvin:
Shit. Ignore that Emily. Goodnight.

I stared at the message.
And suddenly, the perfect night felt different.
Something was going on.
And I needed to find out what.
Liam came back from his call looking like a man ready to pick up where we left off.
I smiled at him.
Soft. Sweet. Convincing.

Because pretending everything was fine was easier than asking questions I wasn’t ready to hear
answers to.
“Everything okay?” he asked, tossing his phone onto the nearby chair.
“Yeah.” I leaned in, kissing him lightly. “Just tired.”
He studied me. His fingers brushed my cheek. “Are you sure?”
I nodded again. “Positive.”
But inside, my thoughts were anything but quiet.
Kelvin’s message looped over and over in my head.
He’s giving up his inheritance for that.
What did that mean? And why was it something Liam never told me?
If I wanted to know the truth, I had to start with someone who wouldn’t lie to protect him.
Sophia.
The next day moved in a blur. I filmed my usual cooking segment, smiled for the camera, greeted my viewers, and said all the right things. But my hands shook when I cracked eggs, and I burned the top layer of my soufflé twice.
When it was over, I turned off the ring light and sat still in the silence of my room, waiting,
A knock came twenty minutes later.

“Can I come in?” Sophia called.
“The door’s open.”
She stepped in, still dressed like she walked out of an editorial shoot, holding two iced teas and an arched brow. “What’s this serious thing you needed to talk about?”
1 patted the spot beside me on the bed.
She sat, handed me a drink, and gave me a look. “Okay, this feels like it’s going to be difficult.
“It is.” I took a breath. “But I need you to be honest with me, Sophia.”
She looked slightly amused but nodded. “You know I will.
I stared down at my lap. “What inheritance is Liam giving up… for me?”
The shift in her expression was instant. Amusement gone. “What?”
“You heard me.
“Emily… how did you even…”
“It doesn’t matter. Please. I need to understand.”
Sophia exhaled, like the air was heavier than usual. “Okay. But once I tell you, you can’t unhear it.”
“I already feel it.”
She hesitated, then spoke. “Before Grandpa died, he changed his will. Everything–his businesses, trusts, real estate and he willed it to Liam.”
My chest tightened. “Why Liam?”
“They were close. He always saw something of himself in Liam… and he wanted his legacy protected. But he was also worried.”
“About what?”
Sophia’s voice lowered. “That Liam would die successful but alone. He always said Liam carried the weight of an empire but didn’t let anyone carry him. He didn’t date much growing up. The girls he did try? Disaster. He got tired of trying.”
