Chapter 132
“What is wrong with you?” Sophia burst out. “She’s gunning for you and you’re handing her bullets?”
“Calm down,” I tell her, managing a small smile. “Please.”
Then I turned to Liam. “Can we talk in private?”
In Liam’s room, the door shuts behind us.
“Explain,” he said.
I told him the truth. That I couldn’t risk this going public, not when my head was already a mess. I’d rather deal with her under this roof than deal with millions of strangers dissecting our lives. My voice cracked on the last word.
He crossed the space between us in two strides, pulling me against him. “I’m sorry. This will be the last time anyone disrupts our peace. I swear it.”
When he pulled back, his eyes were fixed on mine. “If she’s moving in here, you’re moving in too.”
“I’m almost always here anyway.
“No,” he says firmly. “This time, it’s every day until she’s gone. I’m not giving her the chance to think she’s winning.”
“My mom…”
“I’ll speak to her myself.”
Back in the living room, the air was cooler, though Jay is still holding Sophia’s hands like he doesn’t quite trust her not to launch across the room.
Cassie was told she could move in tomorrow. She left with a little smile that makes me want to wash the air behind her.

Chapter 132
Liam told Sophia and Jay we’re stepping out. “I need to speak with Emily’s mom.
Sophia hugs me tight. “I’ll be here tomorrow. We’re not done talking.”
Jay grinned. “I’ll be here tomorrow too… just to make sure Sophia doesn’t bury anyone in the backyard.”
A laugh escaped me before I could stop it.
He stepped closer, pulling me into a hug. His voice dropped to a whisper. “This will be over before you know it. I’m proud of how you’re handling things.”
The words warmed something in me I hadn’t realized had gone cold. I held on a second longer before letting go.
At my house, I let Liam and my mom talk alone.
It was well past midnight when my mother came into my room and sat beside me.
“He told me everything,” she said softly. “That young man loves you. Whatever this storm is, his heart is with you. He’d never hurt you.”
“I know.”
“You can move in with him until this passes. His reasoning made sense. But promise me, no matter how Cassie provokes you, don’t let her pull you into her mess.‘
”
I nodded, throat tight.
“She’ll test you. She’ll try to get under your skin,” my mom went on. “Don’t give her what she’s looking for. If it ever feels like too much, you come home.‘
I hugged her hard, breathing in the familiar scent of safety.
“1
“You’ll be fine,” she said. “No great love story comes without trials.”
The next day, I packed a small bag and left it in my studio. Liam said he’d pick me up from there so we could go “home” together.
The day passed in a blur of cooking. When night fell, Liam arrived. His driver took my car while
he drove us.
We stepped into the living room to find Cassie lounging on the sofa, a movie playing, a glass of

juice in her hand
She looks up with a smile that doesn’t reach her eyes. “Welcome home,” she says, drawing out the words like she’s been waiting to use them.
The glass slipped from her fingers, shattering against the tile, juice spreading onto the rug.
“Oh no,” she said lightly. “Emily, could you help me clean this up? I can’t really bend right now. Her gaze swept over me, and she added with a small shrug. “Oh… right, you wouldn’t know what that’s like.”
Liam started forward, but I caught his arm, holding him still.
Cassic isn’t just here to stay, she’s here to bury me.
But if she thinks I’ll dig my own grave, she’s mistaken.
Sophia was at Liam’s the next morning, just like she promised.
Liam was gone before the sun had a chance to warm the windows. Jay texted at dawn, saying he had to rush to the studio and adding, “Keep an eye on Sophia for me. I’d like to avoid her committing a crime before lunch.”
I thought he was joking, but it didn’t take long to learn he wasn’t.
Sophia had Cassie cornered in the living room before the morning had even settled, pacing with the sharp intent of someone building a case.
“First, let’s establish something,” she said. “I live here too. Always have. So, If you think your little stay is going to be an easy ride, think again. That means we’ll be under the same roof, Cassie, how thrilling for both of us.
