HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 201

**Shadows of the Past – By Emma Clarke**
**Chapter 201**

A subtle smile played at the corners of Daven’s mouth, a flicker of relief that was almost imperceptible. “Thomas is managing the divorce proceedings,” he stated, his voice steady. “I won’t need to be present at the hearings. The lawyer’s presence is sufficient to represent his client. This means I can avoid a direct confrontation with Vanessa.”

Kate let out a breath she didn’t realize she’d been holding, her shoulders relaxing. “That’s good to hear. I just hope we won’t have to endure any more drawn-out drama.”

Arsen, who had just slid into the car, couldn’t help but mutter under his breath, “A weekend ruined, wasted when it should have been spent with family.” The weight of Daven’s command to prepare for SunCity loomed over him, and he knew this trip would likely extend longer than their usual jaunts.

“Andy,” Arsen instructed Daven’s driver, who, like him, should have been enjoying a leisurely day off, “we’ll be picking up Mr. Daven at the Callister residence. Are you ready? It looks like we might be in SunCity for quite some time.”

“I’m ready, Mr. Arsen,” the driver replied, his tone professional yet tinged with the weariness of a long day.

With a curt nod, Arsen settled back into his seat, mentally preparing for the forty-five-minute to one-hour drive ahead. This time would be crucial for him to review the files once more—documents that Daven would require for his impending meeting with Harold in SunCity.

Before long, the luxurious SUV that belonged to Daven glided into the grand front lobby of the Callister estate. Immediately, two staff members approached to collect his luggage with practiced efficiency. Arsen took a moment to greet Kate Callister with a polite nod before following Daven out of the car.

Within mere minutes, they were en route to the airport. The flight was scheduled for two in the afternoon, and Arsen found it a bit peculiar that Daven had opted for a private jet simply to expedite their journey to SunCity. Yet, he knew better than to question Daven’s decisions; he always had his reasons, even if they were often shrouded in mystery.

The drive was swift, and soon enough, their vehicle pulled into a private hangar, isolated from the frenetic energy of the commercial terminals.

“All the documents for the SunCity project are ready, sir,” Arsen reported, his voice brisk. “Mr. Harold’s staff will be waiting to pick us up as soon as we land. I’ve also scheduled a meeting with Mr. Chris right after your discussion with Harold, just as you requested.”

“Excellent,” Daven replied, ascending the steps to the jet with a purposeful gait. “The mayor of SunCity must be eager to speak with us, meeting us at the airport himself? Quite impressive.” A sharp grin broke across his face, revealing a hint of his usual confidence.

Arsen felt a flicker of uncertainty. How should he respond to that? A nagging feeling of unease began to creep in. What if this was a setup? A carefully laid trap that could leave them cornered, forced into an untenable situation? It was a possibility that couldn’t be dismissed.

Arsen hesitated, weighing his words carefully before asking, “Do you want to reach out to her?”

Daven straightened in his seat, his tone firm and unyielding. “No. I won’t interfere with her legal matters. But there are other pressing issues I need to address.”
