“Thank you, Chris.”
Another voice cut in, laced with fury that raised the hairs on the back of Chase’s neck. “Whoever touched that child will pay.”
It was Cale—cold, sharp, and menacing.
“Cale,” Riana whispered, afraid. “Josh was in an accident. I’m sure Chase doesn’t know exactly what happened yet.”
“I’m sure it wasn’t just an accident.”
“Don’t act rashly, Cale.” Daniel’s voice was firm, heavy with warning.
“Rash?” Cale gave a short, bitter laugh. “This isn’t the time to sit idly by, Dad. Someone dared to make Josh a target. A child—! And you want me to sit quietly as if nothing happened?”
“Cale!” Daniel snapped. “We can’t investigate further until we have an official report. Don’t take hasty action—that could create far bigger problems.”
Cale’s tone dropped, dangerous and low. “Problems? No, Dad. The real problem is someone thinking they can touch a member of the Miller family and go on with their life. I won’t let that happen.”
“Cale—” Chris’s voice was cautious. “You need to think clearly. Our focus has to be Josh’s condition right now.”
“I’m clearer than anyone, Chris.” Cale’s words cut like a blade. “I’m worried about that child. Truly. If I could, I’d be in Mighatan already, but… I can’t do that right now. You all go be with Josh and make sure he gets the best treatment at the hospital. But I… I will find whoever’s behind this. And when I do—”
He stopped; his breathing was heavy, packed with anger.
Hai, Nuna — silakan dibaca ulang part yang aku buat. Hari ini Nuna harus penuh semangat ya.
“—they’ll all be shocked by what I’m going to do. I swear, they’ll regret ever laying a hand on that child.”
A heavy silence followed, pressing down on the call and leaving nothing but a chill of dread in every ear that had heard it.
“Cale,” Daniel called, but the line meant for his son had already gone dead. “For God’s sake, that boy!”
“Dad,” Chris cut in, his voice calm after quietly listening through the entire call. “I’m sure Cale knows what he’s doing. We’d better do what he asked—focus on Josh.”
“Chris is right,” Chase agreed, exhaling long and hard. “I’ll also make sure Cale doesn’t act recklessly, Dad.”
“Very well then.” Daniel’s voice carried resignation. “Your mother and I will get ready to leave for Mighatan. Keep me updated on Josh’s condition, Chase.”
“Yes, Dad.”
“Tell Althea to stay calm,” Riana added softly. “I’ll be at the hospital as soon as I can.”
