HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 292

**Shadows of the Past – By Emma Clarke**
**Chapter 292**

“I never imagined you’d be heading off so soon,” Kate murmured, her voice soft and laced with a hint of melancholy. Her gaze lingered on Althea for a moment longer before drifting toward Josh, who was animatedly conversing with Daven a short distance away. The sight of them together brought a bittersweet smile to her lips, as she felt the weight of the impending separation.

“Please, Althea,” she continued, her voice imbued with a quiet hope, “make it a point to visit Mighatan often. I’d hate for this to be a goodbye forever.” The unspoken fear of their paths diverging too widely hung in the air, a palpable tension that made her heart ache.

“I promise I’ll do my best, Mrs. Kate,” Althea replied, her hands enveloping Kate’s in a gentle squeeze, radiating warmth and reassurance. “And you must take care of yourself, too.”

“You don’t need to fret about me, Althea,” Kate chuckled softly, a lightness attempting to dispel the thick atmosphere. “You should be focusing on taking care of yourself instead. It’s a big world out there.” Almost as if to divert the conversation from the heavy emotions, she inquired, “Has Mrs. Miller already departed?”

“Yes, she and Mr. Daniel took off yesterday afternoon,” Althea responded, a hint of regret in her tone. “They wanted me to extend their apologies for not being able to say goodbye in person.”

Kate let out a light laugh, the sound mingling with the bustling ambiance around them. “Oh, that’s perfectly fine. I understand how busy they can be. I just hope we can cross paths again someday. You know, he has a particular fondness for my cakes.”

Althea chuckled quietly, the warmth of their camaraderie wrapping around her like a comforting blanket. She turned to Felicia and Kalina, her expression earnest. “Please, take good care of Mrs. Kate, all right? And I wish you the best with your business endeavors—I loved hearing about everything you’ve been working on.”

Felicia’s smile brightened, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. “Would it be alright if… we called you sometimes?” she asked, her voice filled with eagerness.

“Absolutely,” Althea replied without a moment’s hesitation. “I would love to hear from you.”

“Ah, thank you, Althea. You’re far too kind,” Kalina said, stepping forward to envelop Althea in a warm embrace. “I don’t think I could ever apologize enough for everything that’s happened. Thank you… for believing in us and giving us a chance.”

Althea returned the hug, her smile gentle, embodying forgiveness and understanding.

Meanwhile, not far from their heartfelt farewell, Daven crouched down, trying to meet Josh’s gaze directly. His heart was a tumult of emotions, raw and conflicted. It wasn’t that he felt joy over what had transpired in Josh’s life; how could any father feel that way? Even though only a select few knew the full story, Daven and those in the know would never allow the one responsible to escape unpunished.

The Mighatan airport that morning buzzed with an undercurrent of bittersweet farewells. The rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingled with the distant echoes of flight announcements, creating a surreal atmosphere where time seemed to slip away too quickly. Althea stood near the departure gate alongside Chase, while Josh remained close to Daven—the man who couldn’t seem to tear his gaze away from him.

“So… this is really it, huh? Your last day here,” Daven said, his voice barely above a whisper, meant solely for the little boy standing in front of him.

Josh nodded, his bright eyes shimmering with unshed tears. “Yeah. But I promise I’ll text you all the time, Mr. Handsome.”

A soft chuckle escaped Daven as he leaned in closer, a faint smile touching his lips. “You’re still calling me that?”

Josh beamed. “Of course! Because it fits! Your name should really be ‘Mr. Handsome Daven,’ but Mommy said that’s too long.”

Daven laughed lightly, though the sound trembled slightly at the edges, betraying the weight of their moment. “Alright then. Whatever you choose to call me, I’ll take it.” His heart ached with tenderness as he looked at the boy, wishing he could voice the feelings that hovered just out of reach.
