HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 301

**Shadows of the Past – By Emma Clarke**
**Chapter 301**

The airport buzzed with an electric energy that morning, a vibrant mix of excitement and anticipation filling the air. Sunlight poured through the towering glass windows, casting golden reflections that danced across the immaculate marble flooring. Althea felt a warmth in her heart as she held Chase’s hand firmly, while on her other side, little Josh ambled along, clutching his beloved yellow robot like a treasure.

“I still find it hard to believe that you two are actually leaving today,” Riana Miller remarked, her voice tinged with nostalgia. She looked back and forth between Althea and Chase, her smile revealing a bittersweet joy. “It seems like just yesterday you were exchanging vows—and now you’re off to Japan for your honeymoon.”

Althea’s smile was bright yet tinged with emotion, her eyes glistening as she replied, “Time really does fly, doesn’t it, Mom?” The weight of the moment pressed on her, a mix of joy and the bittersweet pang of leaving.

“Have an absolutely wonderful trip, Althea,” Kate interjected, her tone warm and reassuring, wrapping Althea in a motherly embrace.

As they settled into the airport lounge, it became clear that nearly everyone they cared about had gathered to see them off. Initially, they had intended to keep their plans under wraps, but Josh, with his typical exuberance, had let the secret slip, announcing to anyone who would listen that his parents were embarking on their honeymoon.

“Thank you, Mrs. Kate,” Althea said, her voice softening as she turned to Josh, a hint of hesitation lingering in her tone. “Josh, sweetheart… are you really sure you don’t want to come with Mommy?” Her heart ached at the thought of leaving him behind.

Kate exhaled gently, casting a reassuring glance at the small boy who stood beside Daven. “Don’t worry, Althea. I promise to take excellent care of him. We’ll keep him entertained every single day. And as far as school goes, Daven’s already taken care of everything. Right, Day?”

“Absolutely,” Daven affirmed, offering a small but genuine smile. “Your mom’s right. You two should just go and have a fabulous time.”

His voice carried a quiet strength, but Althea could sense the underlying emotions swirling beneath the surface. Letting go had never been an easy task, yet the honesty surrounding Josh’s parentage had somehow brought a sense of peace to their complicated situation. That was enough for him.

Josh raised his tiny hand with confidence, his face serious. “Don’t worry, Mommy! I’ll be a good boy while you and Daddy Chase are away. Handsome Papa and Grandma Kate promised to take care of me!” His earnestness drew laughter from the group, a sweet melody of joy echoing in the terminal.

“See?” Kate chuckled, her eyes sparkling with mirth. “Even he’s giving me a glowing recommendation.”

Daven knelt down, gently smoothing Josh’s tousled hair. “I’ll look after him too, Althea. You don’t have to fret.” His voice was low but steady, filled with sincerity. “Josh won’t be alone.”

Althea locked eyes with him, her lips quivering before she managed to nod appreciatively. “Thank you, Daven.”

“Always,” he replied, a promise hanging in the air.

Nearby, Riana’s smile deepened, radiating affection. “Althea, darling, make sure you savor every moment of this trip. Don’t let work or anything else cloud your mind.” Her gaze shifted to Chase, a glimmer of motherly admonition in her eyes. “And you—make certain of that, my son.”

Chase chuckled softly, a hint of mischief in his voice. “Yes, Mom. I’ll ensure she enjoys every second of it.”

Daniel Miller clapped a hand on Chase’s shoulder, pride shining in his eyes. “You’ve been working tirelessly, son. Take this time to relish being with your wife. As for Josh, we’ll all pitch in. Cale and Chris have already offered to help whenever Daven’s busy.”

“Indeed, we’ve already mapped out a schedule,” Kalina chimed in cheerfully, her enthusiasm infectious. “The first week, he’ll stay at the Callister house, and the second week at the Millers’.”
