HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 329

**Shadows of the Past – By Emma Clarke**

**Chapter 329**

“Papa, this is where Daddy sleeps, right?”

Josh’s innocent voice pierced the serene stillness of the afternoon, a gentle breeze carrying whispers of memories long cherished. His tiny fingers clutched a delicate bouquet of white lilies, each bloom handpicked with care, reflecting his pure heart.

“Yes, sweetheart,” Daven replied softly, his voice a soothing balm. “This is where Daddy rests.”

Held securely in Althea’s embrace, Grace’s small finger pointed towards the headstone that stood before them, a silent sentinel of their past. “Flower… for Daddy?” she asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.

Althea’s smile was tender, a flicker of warmth in her gaze. “Yes, darling. For Daddy Chase.”

With a gentle reverence, Daven knelt beside the grave, carefully laying the flowers atop the cold stone. “We came to tell him that we’re all doing fine,” he said, his voice steady yet laced with an undercurrent of emotion.

Josh lowered his head, a shadow of sadness crossing his young features. “I miss Daddy,” he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. “But Papa said Daddy always watches us from the sky, right?”

“That’s right,” Daven affirmed, a faint smile tugging at his lips. “Daddy’s always watching, and I’m sure he’s very proud of you.”

Althea’s heart swelled as she observed the bond between her son and Daven. “You’re such a wonderful boy, Josh,” she said, her voice filled with warmth.

Josh looked up, his eyes sparkling with hope. “Mommy, can I tell Daddy something?”

“Of course you can, sweetheart,” Althea encouraged, her heart swelling with pride.

Standing resolutely in front of the gravestone, Josh spoke with sincerity that belied his years. “Daddy, I’m big now. I help Mommy carry Grace, and I study hard so Papa and Mommy won’t be sad. I know you love Papa too, right? ‘Cause Papa helps take care of us.”

Daven felt a lump in his throat, his heart aching with emotion. “Daddy would agree with that, kiddo. I’m sure he loves you very much.”

Grace, sensing the weight of the moment, reached for Daven’s hand with her tiny fingers. “Papa… hug…” she pleaded, her voice soft and sweet.

He smiled warmly, enveloping her in a gentle embrace. “Of course, sweetheart.”

Althea settled down beside the grave, her gaze locked onto the name etched into the white marble, a name that held so much history. “Chase… they’re growing so fast,” she whispered, her voice barely audible. “And Daven’s done everything you ever hoped for.”

Daven shook his head slightly, the weight of her words settling on him. “I’m just doing my best. For them… and for you.”

“For me?” Althea turned to him, her expression softening as she searched his eyes for the truth.

“Yes,” he replied quietly, the sincerity of his words hanging in the air. “I know I’ve hurt you before. But seeing you smile again—that’s enough for me.”

Althea looked down, her breath catching in her throat. “You always make everything feel easier, Daven. Even when I know you’re tired too.”

He offered her a faint smile, a flicker of hope in his eyes. “The tiredness disappears the moment I see you. You, Josh, Grace… all of you.”
