HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 79

**Shadows of the Past – By Emma Clarke**
**Chapter 79**

“What on earth is happening here?” Althea muttered to herself, a frown creasing her brow as confusion washed over her. It was an unusual sight to see so many visitors at Josh’s school; something significant must be unfolding.

Her pace slowed to a near stop as she approached the front yard of Sunrise Preschool, where her gaze was drawn to a scene that felt entirely out of sync with the usual calm of the place. A group of men clad in delivery uniforms bustled about, unloading large, heavy boxes from the back of a truck. The contents remained a mystery, but the labels offered glimpses of their treasures: bookshelves, vibrant rugs, storage bins for toys, and a delightful assortment of tiny tables and chairs that seemed to radiate joy.

Althea’s brow furrowed ever so slightly as her eyes shifted to a man who was carefully adjusting a large, colorful banner that read: “Sunrise Preschool Mini Library.” The sight of it made her heart flutter with curiosity and excitement.

Still, she hesitated to interrupt their busy work. Perhaps this was part of Miss Tania’s long-cherished vision—she had often mentioned her dream of establishing a mini library for the preschool this year. It appeared that her dream was finally taking shape before Althea’s very eyes.

With renewed purpose, Althea stepped onto the school grounds, eager to pick up Josh from his lessons. Typically, he would be waiting for her in the garden area, still under the watchful eyes of his teachers. However, today was different; she had arrived thirty minutes earlier than usual, which meant she would have to bide her time until he finished his activities.

As she walked down the brightly decorated hallway, the familiar scent of crayons and paper filled the air, evoking a sense of nostalgia. Just then, she spotted Miss Spencer emerging from the teachers’ lounge, her face lighting up with a smile that seemed to brighten the entire corridor.

“Miss Spencer!” Althea called out warmly, her curiosity piqued. “What’s all the commotion about? I noticed a lot of things being brought in.”

Miss Spencer’s eyes sparkled with enthusiasm as she replied, “Oh! You haven’t heard the fantastic news yet, have you? We received the most incredible surprise today! A wonderfully generous person has donated an entire mini library setup for our school!”

Althea’s eyes widened in disbelief, a grin spreading across her face like sunshine breaking through clouds. “A mini library? That’s absolutely amazing!”

“Yes! It’s filled with bilingual children’s books, interactive shelves, and even an educational play rug. I was nearly in tears when I saw the complete list of items they donated,” Miss Spencer exclaimed, her voice brimming with excitement. “The children are going to adore it! We can utilize the space for reading sessions or even educational indoor playtime.”

Althea nodded, her heart swelling with warmth at the thought of the children’s joy. “That’s truly wonderful. I hope it inspires the kids to embrace learning in a fun and engaging way.”

Miss Spencer leaned in closer, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper as if sharing a delightful secret. “And… do you know who the generous donor is?”

“Did you happen to catch his name?” she asked cautiously, a hint of urgency creeping into her voice.

“Unfortunately, no,” Miss Spencer replied, offering an apologetic smile. “But I did overhear some of the teachers referring to him as Mr. Callister. Though I can’t be sure if that’s accurate.”

Althea froze, her breath catching in her throat.

Inside her, the name echoed like a warning bell she had desperately tried to silence since the night before.

Daven Callister.

So… he really came to Josh’s school? Just as Mrs. Yoshida had said?
