The sky looked like it had been split in half as rain kept pouring down. Raindrops fell, blurring the view from the eaves.
There weren't any paved roads in town—only dirt and mud paths. As the rain and soil mixed together, the dirt roads turned into patches of mud.
Each step taken on that muddy road would take a person's entire strength just to lift their foot from the sinking mud. Taking a step forward was even more difficult.
Mike had been caught in the rain as he went out to the town market that morning. He came back completely soaked, while his feet were covered in mud and filth.
He handed Melody the fresh beef and ribs he had bought, placed their umbrella under the eaves, and walked to the side of the house to change his shoes.
Melody placed the food in the kitchen and turned to Tessa. "Tessa, why don't you just stay at our place for a few more days? It's not safe for you to go out in such weather, and the roads are terrible."
Standing under the eaves, Tessa watched the pouring rain with a frown. "I just received a message informing me that my flight's been cancelled due to the weather."
"It's the rainy season now. Every year, the storm will pour for several days in our town at around this time," Melody explained.
Looking at the pouring rain, Tessa only felt worried.
Melody said comfortingly, "Don't worry about it. Although my place isn't a hotel or anything, we won't let you go hungry, and we'll ensure you'll always have a good night's sleep. Give me some time, and I'll make some honey-glazed spare ribs and sauté some beef for you."
"Thank you. I appreciate it," Tessa replied with a smile.
Melody chuckled. "Don't worry about it. I was worried I wouldn't be able to take good care of you during your time here."
…
The rain continued to pour, growing heavier each day. There were no signs that the rain was about to let up.
Soon, the nation's weather agency issued an alert for the storm.
It rained for three days straight.
On the third night, thunder rumbled, lightning flashed, and the wind howled as rain kept pouring down.
Tessa woke up from all the noise, and she could hear people speaking downstairs.
Tessa and Wynn were sleeping in the guest bedroom, located on the second floor. The living room, kitchen, and storeroom were all located on the first floor.
Tessa slipped a jacket on and stepped out of her room. When she reached the stairs, she could hear Melody and Mike's voices coming from the first floor.
"Hurry up. The water's getting in. Stack everything on your end higher up."
"Did you shut off the main power supply? I don't want anything to end up short-circuited."
"It's been turned off. Follow me to the kitchen. We need to move everything off the floor and place it on the table. Otherwise, the food will go bad because of the rising water."
Tessa went downstairs and realized that the first floor was flooded, while Melody and Mike were busy moving things.
When Melody saw Tessa, she immediately paused and asked, "Tessa, why did you come down?"
"Do you need any help?" Tessa asked instead.
"It's alright. You can just go back and rest. The rainwater is seeping in, but it's nothing serious."
To avoid electrocution, they had turned the main power supply off. Hence, they could not turn the lights on and had to rely on their flashlights.
Tessa stood by the stairs and used her phone's flashlight to examine the condition of the room.
Melody was carrying a box as she made her way through the muddy water. The water level had already reached her calves.
Frowning, Tessa asked, "Has this happened before?"
"We had a flood like this five years ago. I didn't expect the rain to be this bad this year round. I'm sorry you're stuck here because of me," Melody said.
Tessa replied nonchalantly, "It's fine. Let me help you."
Tessa immediately searched for Samuel's contact and made the call. Luckily, Samuel answered the phone.
Without wasting another second, she immediately told him he was safe.
"Dad, it's me, Tess. I dropped my phone in a pool of water, and I can't use it anymore. I'm using Wynn's phone to let you know that I'm fine. You don't need to worry about me. I'm safe."
"Tess, you—" Before Samuel could finish his sentence, the call came to an abrupt stop.
Tessa looked at the phone and realized the screen had gone black. It had run out of battery and died.
"What happened? Why didn't my phone charge?" Wynn asked, confused.
Tessa explained, "There were flash floods last night due to the storm, and water came into the house. Melody turned off the main switch last night as she was afraid that they'd be electrocuted."
"That's easy, then. We can just turn the power back on and charge my phone."
However, Tessa frowned and walked over to look out the window.
Water was everywhere, and the strong gusts of wind had knocked over the trees. The situation was serious. The power lines could also have been damaged.
Tessa's worries were proven true later on.
Melody knocked on their doors, came in, and told them the town's power lines had been damaged. The entire town was suffering from a power outage.
"Luckily, we usually cook with firewood, and I had already moved some firewood upstairs last night. We can still use it so we won't go hungry."
That morning, Melody made a stack of pancakes and brought them up for Tessa.
After finishing the food, Tessa frowned and asked, "Has the rescue team not arrived yet?"
Melody shook her head and sighed. "There are a few towns ahead of us. Considering how remote this area is, the rescue team probably won't get here until tomorrow."

The readers' comments on the novel: His Unveiled Passion
I know this isn’t Stephen’s fault but I still hated how he was so careless around this bitch even after Tessa already told him it’s obvious that this bitch likes him and she looked at Tessa with hostility. If Tessa breaks up with him again, I’ll even support her. Ugh. Good luck on winning Tessa back again, Stephen. Tss. I so hate these updates....
Nooooo! Not again! We don't need a twist like this. Is it too hard for the writer to conclude with..."and they live happily ever after"?...
Finally getting Stephen and Tess back together then to tear them apart with foolishness. This is craziness...
Yuhohoooo!!! Finally!!!...
Aaand~ Tessa and Stephen are finally back together! Yaaaaay!...
Why make an uninteresting, irrelevant twist when readers are waiting for Tess and Stephen to be together?...
Gosh just let Tessa and Stephen get back together already! Ugh...
Oh my god, when is this book finishing... they're not even back together yet and more nonsense side plots.....
Whoa! Hahahahahaha! Go, Sophia! Burn, stupid Rowena! Lol...
Sooo~ Chapters 310-318 were just a repeat of Jacqueline’s punishment, official expulsion from the Jacobson family, and arrest. With few changes since Tessa and Stephen are not together this time. So Tessa didn’t witness how Jacqueline was tortured at Stephen’s base, though at least Tessa was still called over and witnessed how Stephen officially expelled Jacqueline from the Jacobson family and how Stephen’s subordinate made Jacqueline grovel in front of Tessa. Lol. I hope Jacqueline’s really out of the story now....
