I carried her, and we headed to the library. It was one of my favorite places in the house. I pulled down my camisole and bra. She immediately latched on and started feeding.

I watched her feed. Her beautiful black eyes looking up at me with wonder and trust. I let out a light chuckle when I realized none of my pups had my eyes. Both had inherited their fathers‘ eye colors.

I traced her soft cheek with my finger, continuing to stare at her. Wondering what Kane looked like. Apart from her eyes, Phoenix looked like me, so I had no clues to imagine Kane’s appearance.

After she was done, I stood up to burp her. She wasn’t a particularly fussy baby, usually sleeping after feeding, but now she was fighting it. She was crying, refusing to quiet down.

After trying to soothe her for several minutes, I was about to give up when Sebastian walked in. He’d taken off his jacket, and his sleeves were rolled up. Without a word, he took Phoenix from my hands, and she immediately quieted.

“Why is my little princess crying?” he asked, smiling, using a very sweet voice.

Phoenix stared at him with wonder and fascination. If I didn’t know better, I’d think she adored him.

I sat down, keeping quiet as Sebastian continued his one–sided conversation with my daughter. My mind was racing. There was so much to figure out. My head was a fucking

mess.

“I didn’t mean to yell at you,” his soft and remorseful voice pulled me from my thoughts. “You have to understand, every time I think about you and Kane, I get jealous and angry.”

His confession caught me off guard. I didn’t know how to react, so I just remained silent.

“Knowing that I almost lost you because of him is painful. It was my damn stupidity and ignorance that drove you into another man’s arms. That’s why I get so angry every time he’s mentioned, because he did what no other man could. He was able to touch your heart, a heart that had always belonged to me.”

“Where is Kane, Sebastian?” I asked fearfully.

I’d seen Sebastian’s possessiveness with Aurora before, and how far it drove him. I was worried he might have done something to Kane.

He sighed, then answered: “Prison.”

My eyes widened at his response. “What?”
