Breaking the Cycle
Thea’s POV
I sat in the kitchen, absently stirring my melting ice cream while my mind played Roman’s visit on repeat. He’d left hours ago, but his desperate pleading still rang in my ears. It was nearly four, and I was anxiously waiting for Leo to get home from school. Sebastian would be back later, which gave me time to figure out what the hell I was going to do about Aurora.
Aurora and I had never exactly been BFFs. Most of that was because was jealous she had the man I wanted. Back then, she mostly just ignored me, acting like I didn’t exist. The only time she ever showed violence or hostility toward me was after she found out Sebastian and I had slept together.
I didn’t blame her, honestly. If I were in her shoes, I probably wouldve reacted the same way. So I never held her post–truth attitude against me. But this Aurora was different. I really couldn’t tell if it was heartbreak that drove her to become this way, or if something else happened.
Then there was Róman. His cutting remarks, angry and disgusted looks, not to mention how he deliberately hurt me emotionally.
All of this made me question whether I should help them. I mean, what right did he have to ask this of me? Would I be cruel or selfish if I didn’t plead their case to Sebastian? Either way, I didn’t owe them shit.
A frustrated scream followed by a loud thud pulled me from my thoughts. I hopped off the barstool, abandoning my half–eaten ice cream, and rushed to the living room.
To my surprise, I found Leo looking like he was ready to commit murder.
He angrily threw his backpack onto the sofa and let out another low growl filled with anger and frustration.
“What’s wrong, Sweetheart?” I asked softly, cautiously approaching him. “What’s got you so angry?”
He looked up at me. I saw fire burning in those green eyes so similar to his father’s. Leo was usually chill, nothing ever fazed this kid. So whatever had him this furious had to be major.
“That girl again!” he shouted, starting to pace back and forth.
“What girl?”
“Piper!”
He spit out her name like it was something vile and disgusting. Like he couldn’t even stand the taste of it on his lips,
“The one who’s been leaving you notes?” I asked.
He nodded.
“Well, what did she do this time?” I asked curiously.
Whoever this girl was, I had to admit, getting my boy this worked up was an achievement.
Pink colored his cheeks, and he mumbled something.
“You’re going to have to be clearer than that, Leo. I didn’t catch a word.”
After taking a deep breath, he said, “She said that one day she’s going to marry me and we’re going to have lots of babies.”

I swear I tried to keep a straight face, I tried not to let any traces of musement show, but it was a losing battle.
“Mom!” he glared at me. “This isn’t funny.”
“I’m sorry, Leo.” I tried to pull him in for a hug, but he refused my embrace.
“I’m guessing you don’t like her?” I asked.
“Of course not. I find her really annoying; in fact, I hate her,” he paused. “And even if I don’t find my mate, if I ever choose to marry someone, it would be someone like you. Elegant, classy, and beautiful. A very smart woman. Not a girl who finds mud and bugs amusing.
I just stared at him, noting the stubborn look in his eyes. Leo was definitely going to grow up to be a force to be reckoned with like his father. I mean, fuck, he was such young and already knew what he wanted in life and in his Luna.
“Yeah… decided to finish the rest of the work at home,” he replied. “You still haven’t answered my question.”
