She didn’t give anyone a chance to answer. She gently took Phoenix from Sebastian and grabbed my hand, pulling me away from the two men who stood awkwardly together.

We were both quiet as we walked up the stairs to Phoenix’s room. Once there, Mom gently

placed Phoenix in her crib. After settling her, she took my hand, and we sat by the

window.

“Tell me, have you made a decision about Sebastian?” she asked, holding my hand.

I turned to look at her and shook my head. “No. I’m still uncertain about things.”

“I’ve been thinking, and I believe you should start seeing a therapist. Iris told me you had

started before but stopped for obvious reasons. I think you should resume,” she began.

“You’ve been through a lot, and letting go is obviously hard for you. You need help and

someone to guide you through your healing journey.”

I wanted to interrupt her, but she stopped me.

“I understand, dear, but you need this. Whether you choose to stay with Sebastian or not,

you still need therapy. You can’t say you’ll heal on your own, and sitting there without addressing the issues won’t help anything. You’ll try to move forward, with or without

Sebastian, but the past will always pull you back until you deal with it, so please consider

it.”

She squeezed my hand. “Another thing, if you decide to go back to Sebastian, you both need couples therapy. Maybe Sebastian needs therapy on his own, too. Your life together didn’t start well. You messed up when you became obsessed with a man who belonged to someone else. I’m not saying what Sebastian did was right, but any sane person would have done the same.
