Thea’s POV
I let out a breath I didn’t realize I’d been holding. I’d done it. I’d actally proven Aurora’s innocence.
*Release Aurora Sterling immediately and arrange the paperwork,” Chief Hawthorne finally declared.
I turned toward Aurora, who still looked like she hadn’t fully processed what had just happened. Her eyes were wide, mouth slightly open, like someone who’d just woken up from a nightmare only to find themselves in a completely different reality. When the officer approached to escort her out for the release procedures, she turned to look at me, her eyes filled with something complex
and indefinable.
“Thea… Aurora’s voice came out hoarse, like sandpaper against wood.
She had something to say, and honestly, so did I. I took a step toward her, ready to speak, but in that exact moment-
*Chief!”
The office door was knocked urgently, then slammed open. A young officer burst in, his face flushed with excitement, chest heaving dramatically clearly he’d been running. His uniform was disheveled his cap crooked.
–
“Our guys just spotted Vanessa!”
All attention immediately shifted to him. Hawthorne shot up from his chair so fast it slid back several inches: “Where?”
“The lakeside cabin! The one Aurora mentioned!” the young officer panted. “Our informant saw someone moving around there, and based on the description, it’s likely Vanessa!”
My heart started pounding like someone was beating drums inside my chest. Finally, we were going to catch the bitch who almost killed me and Phoenix. For so long, I’d been imagining what it would feel like to come face to face with the real culprit.
“Stay calm, Thea,” Diana soothed me. “Keep your head clear.”
I took a deep breath, trying to control the excitement building inside me. Sebastian stood up too, and I could feel the tension radiating from him like electricity crackling in the air.
“Organize the team immediately. We leave now,” Hawthorne began issuing orders, his voice serious and commanding.
“I want to come with you all.”
The words slipped out of my mouth before I could stop them, surprising even myself. But the moment I said it, I knew it was the right decision. I needed to be there, needed to see that bitch get caught with my own eyes.
Sebastian immediately turned to face me, his brow furrowed deeply: Absolutely not! This is too dangerous. You stay here, I’ll go.”
“No.” I shook my head firmly, my voice stronger than I’d expected. “I need to see her get arrested myself, Sebastian. This woman almost killed me, almost killed Phoenix. I have the right to be there
I stood up, hands clenched into fists. Thinking about how Vanessa almost took Phoenix’s and my lives, almost made Leo lose his mother and his little sister, anger boiled through my veins like lava.
Sebastian’s expression grew even more serious: “You don’t understand how dangerous this is, Thea. Vanessa’s cornered now, and desperate people are capable of anything. I can’t let you take that risk.”
Chapter 298
I’m not some weak woman here who needs your protection.” I look directly into his eyes, refusing to back down, deliberatoly making my voice sound more powerful.
In that instant, I felt Diana’s stngth flowing through me, giving me unprecedented confidence. I saw Sebastian’s expression shift subtly, he realized something but didn’t voice it.
Finally, after staring at me for several seconds, he sighed softly, bises softening as a flash of understanding crossed them. This silent communication gave me a strange sense of intimacy, like we had some secret language that belonged only to us.
