I Bought the exiled king (by Natalie Winter) novel Chapter 26

Chapter 26

Valencia

I stood there like an idiot as the three seemed to understand something I didn’t and director Marshall scurried out of the conference room faster than i

could blink.

Mrs Briggs lingered for a second longer, eyeing lan like a delicious piece of candy, and then she gave me a nasty look and left as well.

That just left me staring at him awkwardly.

The door closed behind her, and all that was left was silence.

It was so loud that I could hear my heart threaten

tear open my ribcage and fall out of my body.

I only kept looking at lan. Words refused to come

mouth.

I wasn’t sure what to say to him at this point.

The trial review or whatever this was had taken an unexpected turn. First, he didn’t even show any indication that he knew me, then swooped in the last minute to save me from getting killed and then suddenly said that he wanted to put me on some review.

I racked my brains to recall if there was any law provision that allowed that.

I could also not recall any case in

matters.

Cent memory that had the High Inquisitor stepping in. And a departmental review was like the very basic of such

lan finally got up from his seat and began heading towards me.

My heart began to beat even faster as I saw him look at me.

I was trying to read his gaze and understand what the hell was going on.

And despite all my anger and confusion, I was drinking in the sight of him. How the hell was I missing a man I had barely known for days?

Why did it feel like I could only feel relieved after slipping into his arms and settling in his warm

embrace?

He continued to slowly approach me and I tried committing his face to memory, afraid that he was going to disappear again without a trace.

When he finally came to stand directly in front of me and looked down at me, I couldn’t help it.

I should have asked one of the several important questions.

What the hell is the Black Shore?

What are you exactly? lan? My boy toy? The High Inquisitor?

Why would you not even acknowledge me?

But instead of all these questions, I heard the following words slip through my mouth.

Where were you all this time?

And I cursed myself for still wanting an answer to that.

When he didn’t answer, I raised my hands to grab his coat

nd let out all the frustration that had been building inside of me.

I shook him hard for the torture he let me go through in the past few hours.

I also raised my hand to slap him for acting so cold towards me.

Antiver me!!

i demanded, but then his hand came forward to stop mine mid air.

And there was the first hint of recognition in his eyes.

Those cold orbs were now looking at me, really looking at me.

Easy there, your highness

My eyes went wide at that.

How could he joke after putting me through such a hard time?

Who the hell are you, exactly?

I asked, and my voice climbed an octave.

But then he suddenly grabbed me by the shoulders and pulted me to the side.

I let out a startled yelp when he pushed me to the side, away from the sight of some employees passing by, and looked around the room carefully.

My skin rejoiced at his touch, and I couldn’t help but look up at him. One of his hands reached up to place a finger on my lips.

Shh,” He said in that silky voice of his.

What is going on?I couldn’t help but ask.

He wasn’t telling me anything as he pushed me further into a corner and I let him.

His body was pressed against mine and it was so deliciously hot.

He let go of my hand, so I held the lapels of his coat tighter, wringing my fingers to keep a firm grip.

lan, will you tell me what is-I began, but then he suddenly lowered his head and silenced me again.

Not with his hands. But with his lips.

And goodness, did my body feel like it was a kindling to a fire!

I latched onto him like I was in a desert and he was the freshest, sweetest source of water and drank in the kiss.

This is what I had been waiting for.

The recognition. The warmth. The comfort.

I couldn’t even fathom that he would kiss me after brutally seeing me get teared apart but I clung to him.

My fingers clawed at his suit and I felt my body wanting to press onto his and mold us into one.

I was behaving like a deranged person, but I couldn’t care less.

I couldn’t believe I could miss someone so much, but the way I was clinging to him told me that I had missed my boy toy more than I imagined.

And I didn’t even know how many more identities he had.

He had just said that he was going to put me on some review and send me to some shore. Why the hell then was I not running away

from him?

I felt a sound that was similar to a moan escape his lips as his hands traveled up my legs and bunched up my tshirt.

His fingers were digging into my skin and those full lips were pushing my mouth open, demanding more.

It was one hell of a frenzy where neither of us could quite decide where to touch each other or kiss.

I didn’t want this to end. But lan pulled me in for a deep kiss, my body bending backward to give him better access as his tongue explored my mouth.

And then he wrenched himself free of me.

It was too sudden and the force with which he did that almost knocked me off.

I went reeling backwards and was glad there was a wall or I would have toppled out of the room and onto the passageway outside.

My hair flew all around me and when I gathered my bearings, I saw

There was a conflicted expression on his face.

lan looking at me.

I shouldn’t have done that,He said in a low voice and then curled his hands into fists.

I slowly steadied myself and smoothed my dress.

I meant to go towards him again, but he shook his head and raised a finger as if to stop me from proceeding ahead.

Go home and don’t look for me. I’ll take you to the Black Shore in a few days.

Huh?

Why should I not look for him?

What do you mean?I began, but he had already taken a step ahead, pulled me in a hug and then walked away without a backward glance.

I was so confused by what he was doing that I felt frozen for a minute. And that was enough for him to walk outside the office and disappear from my

view.

My fingers traced the outline of my lips, recalling the feel of his lips on mine.

He had not forgotten me. Not really.

But I had no idea what was going on or how he had swooped in at the last minute to save me.

Dont look for me,He had said.

As if that would stop me from going back to him and demanding all the answers.
