Half a minute later, Rhea heard footsteps approaching again. Annoyed, she opened her eyes. “Are you
…”
The words froze in her throat.
It was George.
He was dressed in a sharp suit. Standing tall and poised, he exuded a calm and serious demeanor. The clean cut of his short hair gave him a trace of unruliness that didn’t quite fit the image of a man
in power.
George’s gaze was calm as he asked, “Did you go through with it already?”
As he spoke, Nathan appeared from behind him.
Rhea’s chest tightened. “Nathan…”
He walked over to the bed and wrapped her in a hug.
Tears came rushing out before Rhea could stop them. Her shoulders shook as she cried.
“I thought we said no more tears.” Nathan sighed.
He let her cry for a while before she finally looked up. “What are you guys doing here?”
They hadn’t just come. They had heard her yelling earlier, from the corner right outside the room.
Nathan glanced at George. His gaze held a flicker of something dangerous.
“We heard you fell and came last minute. I’m heading out with George to buy you some food. Get some rest first,” Nathan said expressionlessly.
Rhea didn’t think much of it.
The two men walked out of the postpartum recovery center, one behind the other.
Suddenly, Nathan stopped and turned. “What the hell was that?”
George raised a brow.
“Don’t play dumb. Rhea said that she loves you, and something is going on between the two of you? What the hell’s going on? George, I treated you like a brother…”
George could only let out a helpless sigh. “She was clearly trying to piss off Carter.”
Still, a faint smile tugged at the corner of his lips.

Nathan calmed down and stepped back in front of him. “George, you should know what you can or cannot do. If anything’s going on, I expect you to give me a heads–up.”
George lit a cigarette and asked, “Give you a heads–up about what?”
Nathan stared at him. The more he thought about it, the more it bugged him.
They were supposed to fly overseas. But just after leaving the office and arriving at the airport, George suddenly brought him to Colburn.
If anyone knew how selfish George really was, it was Nathan. George never did anything without personal gain. No woman had ever gotten anything from him, especially love.
Nathan asked, “How did you find out about Rhea before I did?”
“I know people around here.”
Nathan remembered that George was currently working with Scott Group. However, he still wasn’t fully convinced. Even so, after thinking it through, he chose to trust George.
He didn’t think that George would go that low.
Nathan turned to leave. “I’m going to grab some of her favorite snacks. You stay here and keep an eye on things. Make sure that Jamison guy doesn’t come near Rhea again.”
To Nathan, Carter didn’t even deserve to be named.
George returned to Rhea’s room in the postpartum recovery center.
When Rhea saw him walk back in, she had already calmed down. “You’re back already?”
George sat down leisurely. “Nathan went off alone.”
Their eyes met unexpectedly.
For some reason, that half–smile on George’s face made her cheeks feel warm.
She wasn’t stupid, and she quickly picked up on things. She had a strong sense that he had heard
what she said earlier.
“Um…” Rhea’s expression turned serious. “How long did you and Nathan stand there?”
George lifted his gaze and parted his lips. “Are you trying to figure out if I heard what
you
said?”
