Chapter 210
Aiden was just about to head home after a long night shift when Peter dragged him to a coffee shop.
“Have a coffee. Wake yourself up a bit,” Peter said.
Aiden frowned. “If you’ve got something to say, just spit it out.”
“I heard a few things about the banquet Carter threw last night. I also asked Devan about it when I left Carter’s place earlier, and he said…” Peter hesitated. “He said that Lauren has been sullied.”
Aiden looked confused. “Sullied?”
Peter quickly summarized the issue with the partnership.
Aiden immediately said, “That’s impossible.”
He didn’t know Rhea that well, but he was certain that she would never do something like that. If she really were that ruthless, would she have avoided any direct confrontation with Lauren all this time?
“I’ve seen Lauren lie before, so I don’t trust her story, either. But Carter’s about to go to Draventh. We all grew up together, and if he keeps getting mixed up with Lauren like this, he may never get his life back on track!” Peter was clearly worried about Carter.
“What are you getting at?” Aiden asked.
Peter lowered his voice. “Work with me to drive Lauren away from Carter’s side. Then, we’ll help him patch things up with Rhea.”
He wasn’t a huge fan of Rhea, but after considering all the drama that had ensued since Lauren’s appearance, he knew who was a better match for Carter.
Back in the day, Carter had been carefree and successful. He only needed to worry about his career because Rhea was capable of handling everything at home herself.
But now? Things were just going downhill for him!
That night, Carter received a call from Chloe. “Carter, please come and see Lauren! She hasn’t eaten or drunk anything all day. She can’t go on like this!”
“Mr. Jamison, would you like to bring this wedding photo along?” Devan asked as he boxed up things for the move.
Carter hesitated as he stared at Rhea’s face in the photo. After a long pause, he said, “Yeah.”
On the other end of the line, Lauren could tell that Carter was busy with other things and wasn’t

Chloe immediately said, “Carter, I’m begging you. Please come and see Lauren. She’s my only granddaughter! Please, do this for my sake!”
Just as Carter was about to respond, another call came in, and he saw that it was from Draventh. After some thought, he said, “Let me take this call first.”
He hung up on Chloe and answered the incoming call. “Hello, who is this?”
“Am I speaking to Carter Jamison?” A man’s voice rang out from the other end of the line.
Carter frowned. “Yes. Who is this?”
“The name’s Marcus Cain.”
Marcus Cain?
“When are you free, Mr. Jamison? Let’s meet and talk,” Marcus said.
Carter still couldn’t be sure of who he was, but he thought that the name seemed familiar. He ultimately said, “Sure. Where?”
He vaguely remembered a prominent Cain family in Draventh and wondered if Marcus was from that family.
Meanwhile, Lauren waited in another villa. Carter never called back, and she was growing anxious.
“Just wait it out. Don’t go running back to him! Let him worry about you for a change!” Chloe grumbled.
Her wonderful granddaughter had given Carter beautiful twins. So, how could he not appreciate her and treat her like she was a treasure? How could he just ignore her?
Lauren shook her head. “Grandma, things are different now. I don’t have the leverage to engage in a cold war with him now.”
If Carter decided not to reach out, she had no choice but to go to him. She needed to find a way to make things right with him.
