Now, Liora knew just how shameless Lauren could be. She mocked, “You don’t remember? That’s fine. Vellure Dental’s boss will be in Draventh in a few days, and I’ll invite you to join us for the meal.

Nevertheless, Lauren didn’t bat an eye. “It wouldn’t be appropriate for me to join in since the men will be discussing business.”

“Is that so? But my brother’s assistant mentioned seeing you practically glued to Mr. Jamison’s side during business gatherings back in Colburn. What’s that about? Do you have a problem with Vellure Dental’s boss?” Liora didn’t want to give Lauren any chance to escape.

The crowd’s eyes flitted between the two women. The women present were as sharp as tacks. After seeing how hostile Liora was toward her, they no longer dared speak to Lauren.

After all, who was Liora?

She was George Snider’s cousin and the Marsh family’s granddaughter–in–law. She held significant

influence.

Lauren, on the other hand, was just the fiancee of one of Marcus‘ business partners. Still, the Cain family was in power, and Priscilla had made it clear that she was in support of Lauren.

Lauren realized that she’d walked right into Liora’s trap.

Liora sat beside Rhea and drawled, “Oh, seeing you reminded me of something… My friend, Maeve Corbin, is also based in Colburn. She says she’s met you before, Mrs. Jamison. Do you remember her?

With everyone’s eyes on her, she furrowed her brows and forced out a response. “Vaguely. I’ve been so busy lately that it’s hard to keep track.”

Lauren abruptly shot to her feet. “Mrs. Cain, didn’t you mention some new ornamental trees? How about we check them out?”

Priscilla immediately agreed. “Sure! Come on. They were imported from Selvaria, and they’re beautiful.”

Lauren hurried off with her, wanting to avoid running into Maeve.

“Aunt Priscilla, the ornamental trees haven’t been delivered yet.” Just then, Kate showed up.

“Oh, do we still need to wait? Well, that’s fine. We can look at them after the meal,” Priscilla said.

Kate swept a gaze over Lauren and frowned slightly. “Ms. Thayer?”

Lauren was taken aback. She knew that Kate was Rhea’s friend and couldn’t believe she had just

addressed Priscilla as “Aunt Priscilla“.

“Kate, do you two know each other?” Priscilla asked.

Kate was calm and refined as she said, “Not exactly. I’ve heard a thing or two, though. Ms. Thayer has big ambitions. She didn’t hesitate to leave behind her two children, who weren’t even a month old at the time, to chase them. I was seriously impressed by her drive when I first heard about it.”

Her words were polite but pointed. They instantly shredded the lies Lauren had woven earlier!

Lauren laughed awkwardly. “Those are just rumors. People often make things up. There’s no need for us to believe whatever we hear. Carter wouldn’t still be with me if I’d done that, right?”

“Now, now. The banquet’s starting, so let’s go.” Priscilla ushered the crowd.

Kate glanced at Lauren once more before turning and walking away. “Hi, Rhea.”

“Kate, are you doing better now?” Rhea asked, sounding concerned. She had wanted to visit Kate, but the latter had told her that she was feeling overwhelmed and needed some space. “You can always talk to me if something’s up. Even if I can’t help, I can at least lend you a listening ear.‘
